How To Get The 4.2.2 OTA NOW

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

There is nothing against you. It was us who fell for this trap. We should have used manual installation using SDK. Anyway, Is there any chance of getting my device listed again on google play??

Your device will usually disappear from your Google Play account after a reset. Be patient; it will come back. I have no idea whether or not there is a way to force it to show up, but if there is I haven't found it.

I had to do a factory reset on my Nexus 4 to be able to install the 4.2.2 update, and my phone disappeared from my Play Store account. After flashing I only installed the apps I needed right away because I had to do it from the phone. The next day it showed up in my account again, so I installed the rest of the apps from my PC.

According to an XDA thread, you simply install an app via the phone and it should show up again in the play store... the only change I noticed is that is calls it tmobile nexus 4 now instead of just nexus 4.

The other issue I had was google wallet sat forever trying to re-setup. I removed it via pc from the wallet device list and then that forced the phone to start set up from scratch - after deleting all local purchase history on the phone.

My phone seems to be fine now, but that was a little more painful than advertised. Definitely not "(super easy)".

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

So... did it work? Did you have the Google Play issue?
Yes it worked and there's kind of a google play issue. I usually dowload things from the play store from my PC because I can see things better, I tried that and didn't think it was a problem until i noticed that it was taking forever to go to the phone. I went ro pull it up directly on the phone and then it started to come through. I had to to do that for all three of my downloads. It may have come through eventually but I don't know how long that would have been. Maybe it will iron itself out in a few days. So far that is the only issue I have come accross.

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

The only thing I can think of is to remove your account and then add it again. As far as it being a "trap"..... I wouldn't call it that. It is after all just one established way to force the download. Worked for some and not for others. There's always a risk involved when you take a short cut. As far as your issue... if doing what I said doesn't work... PM Still1. He's really knowledgeable.

I wrote a mail to Google Play support and got a very detailed reply. Before attempting the method suggested in the mail, I gave one last shot at getting the update....and after 2 tries I got the update...So I can't guarantee whether the method suggested in the mail will work or not....but still I was impressed by the detailed step by step instruction....here is the copy of the mail........
Thanks for writing in. I understand that you're unable to see your device on the Google Play website. My apologies for the frustration this may have caused. I'll do everything I can to help.

Even though you may have completed some of the steps below, I suggest making sure you've done all of the following. If any of the steps below aren't available on your device, I suggest continuing to the next step. First, I recommend temporarily uninstalling Google Play Store updates. To do so, please follow these steps:

1. Go to 'Home' > 'Menu' > 'Settings' > 'Applications' > 'Manage applications'
2. Select the 'All' tab
3. Select Google Play Store, and then select 'Uninstall updates'

This will revert Google Play Store to the original version. Google Play Store should automatically self-update to the current version within a few days - there's no way to permanently uninstall Google Play Store updates. However, you can perform the following steps to ensure the latest version of Google Play Store is updated properly:

1. Launch Google Play Store ('Play Store')
2. Using the back arrow, switch to the Home screen
3. Wait 5-10 minutes for Google Play Store to self-update
4. Re-launch Google Play Store ('Play Store')

Next, I recommend clearing the cache and data of Google Play Store, the Download manager, and Google Services Framework. Here's how:

1. Go to 'Home' > 'Menu' > 'Settings' > 'Applications' > 'Manage applications'
2. Select the 'All' tab
3. Select ?Google Play Store?, and then select 'Clear cache' and 'Clear data'

For the Download manager:

1. Go to 'Home' > 'Menu' > 'Settings' > 'Applications'> 'Manage applications'
2. Select the 'All' tab
3. Select 'Download manager', and then select 'Clear cache' and 'Clear data'

For the Google Services Framework:

1. Go to 'Home' > 'Menu' > 'Settings' > 'Applications'> 'Manage applications'
2. Select the 'All' tab
3. Select 'Google Services Framework', and then select 'Clear cache' and 'Clear data'

Finally, I recommend restarting (rebooting) your device by turning off the power, waiting 30 seconds, and then turning on the power again.

Please note that after clearing Google Play Store data, if you have set a PIN code and/or a content filter, you'll need to re-apply these settings.

Look through the threads of this post. Someone added a instructions from Google and added a video. I removed my account from the phone and then added again. That worked for me.

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

Why does anyone think that's easier/safer than sideloading the update?

If I knew that were possible I'd probably give that a go. OTA updates don't reset your data, if sideloaded updates (where ever they come from) also don't reset the phone's data then lack of information must be the reason :-)

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

Received the update on my wife's N4 this morning on its own. I wanted to see how long it would take, about 5 or 6 days I think from when it came out.
