How to get voice dictation microphone key on GBoard?

Can anyone tell me how to get the microphone key for voice dictation on the GBoard? It used to be to the left of the space bar on my Note 4 with the Google keyboard, but on my new Note 8, the key to the left of the space bar is the emoji key. Help would be greatly appreciated. Try this. Open Gboard, long press the 'comma' key and slide to select the keyboard settings (cog icon). Go to 'Preferences' and make sure that 'voice input key' is switched on.

Yes, the "Voice input key" toggle is on. That's why I'm baffled why it won't show up. I even tried turning it off, backing out of Preferences, then going back in and turning it back on, but no joy.

It's in the upper right hand side of my note 8 keyboard, using GBoard.

OK, that explains why I couldn't find it. I have the suggestion strip turned off. Why the heck did they move it up there? As I said, it used to be down to the left of the space bar. Any way to get it back down there?
