might be giving the V to my bro and getting another phone, but he says he wants the original rom and stuff.

so all i gota do is wipe cache and dalvik...then go to backup/restore and restore the original rom right?

do i need to wipe the cache partitions (except sd card)? under what circumstances would i need to do that?

If you have a stock back up the restore it. Download gingerbreak and unroot.

will this also get rid of clockwork mod recovery?

i want to be able to factory reset through settings

No there's a thread in here with flashable zip recoveries by mmarz. Download the stock ov zip. Here's how I do it.
Step 1 download stock recovery zip and gingerbreak.

2. Restore stock backup
3. Flash recovery zip reboot.
4. Install and run gingerbreak unroot

Once you unroot and it restarts go back into recovery to verify that the stock recovery is there. Reboot then once it's unrooted you can do a factory reset. I have the stock recovery zip in my dropbox I can post.
