How To Improve Battery Life

Thanks for the explanation. First time I did it, I had no option and it did the activate. Then had a press next button to reboot.

I just did it again and this time got both options. I chose the second and again it forced me to reboot.

Either way thanks for the explanation. It is good to know.

The pound sign makes all the difference. :-)

Now we'll see if my battery lasts longer than before.

So this will be my first post, I have read through this entire post, so if this info is redundant I am sorry. I have found that charging the phone with it powered on will not let the phone achive a full charge, but powered off it will, here is my method and it seems to have helped out a lot. Charge the phone till it says fully charged (phone on) then without unplugging it turn phone off it will then charge for another 5 maybe 10 min then it will say fully charged, turn on and the battery will actually be 100 percent. I ran the phone down to about 90 percent and cycled it again (three times in all) The results are actually pretty good, I left the phone alone from 7 a.m. this morning till now midnight, I answered a couple of calls sent acouple texts, and about 5 mins of browser that was it and my battery is setting at 83 percent, before doing this my battery would have been down to 60-65 percent just my two cents hope it helps out someone as much as this site has helped me out

Hello travismgause! N00b question: when you say "cycled it again (three times in all)" did you mean let battery drain to 90% and then plug it back in to recharge back up to 100%? Also, are you using any apps like juice defender to aid with your battery life? Thanks!

one question. do i have to do this EVERY single time i upgrade my Superclean versions? or just when i flash roms via Odin

my battery still reading 100% after 30 mins, already looking promising!

I have found that after using this method I really don't see the results for a couple of days, so don't get freaked out if you don't get immediate improved battery life the first day.

Thank you for this.
The fully charge and then wiping bat Stats was very easy, once I got through this thread.

I just flashed superclean 2.8 on Sunday, and the battery meter was obviously a little wonky. Then I got a little confused trying to go through CWM blue to reset battery stats (not there).

The Term Emulator option was nice and easy..

After running *228 my cell reception has improved as well. Great Thread!

you would have to be red recovery.

Yeah I got there, by running update.zip. When I entered advanced, the screen just went blank. I could back out and retry, but still nothing. Falling back on the old linux terminal was much more comfortable.

When you are in red cwm you use the power button to make selections, not the home button.

Yes, he is talking about charging phone to 100%, turn phone off but leave it plugged in, charge to 100%, turn phone back on, charge to 100%, as soon as it hits 100%, pull usb cord, open terminal emulator, next to the $ type su, hit the enter key on keyboard, super user permission will be granted and # will appear, next to # type bstats. Phone will reboot in a few seconds. After phone reboots go to phone, dial *228 and do options 1 and 2. Done.

I'm sorry, I just want to make sure I am doing this correctly...

in the OP, it was said you need to reboot, reboot, reboot... all the way down to 2%-4%...

In your method here, it does not state that.

Am I missing something? Or is it as simply as what you just described in your link I quoted?

Thanks so much!

i used the method in the OP except i used the terminal emulator to clear the bstats. then i rebooted all the way down to 1%. a little over 4 hours and 163 reboots later, i powered down the phone let it charge. i dont think it is necessary to power down to charge it, but i wanted the battery to take a full charge uninterrupted. it has been 30 hours since i unplugged it, i havent used it very much ( a few calls, like 60-70 texts, checked email, a little web browsing) and the battery reads 51%. my battery life was starting to really stink, but this seems to have worked

thanks gunnermike

It is as simple as I say in my link, and from what I hear from other people, and from personal experience of trying all the methods, it is the most effective. You won't see an improvement in battery life for a couple of days, and it is not going to be a huge difference in battery life, but a noticeable difference.

Actually it is necessary to power down and charge it if you are going to run the bstats, because what the bstats does is wipes your battery stats clean to tell the battery stats "right here is 100% charged" By wiping the battery stats you are syncing what you see on the screen as your battery percentage and what your battery is actually showing as it's current charge percentage. So when you turn off your phone after charging full while it is on, you will notice the green battery that appears on your screen will actually show 98 or 99%. Only after it reaches 100% after being charged while it is off is it truly at 100% charge. That's why you run the bstats script at that point.
And Gunnermike53 wrote his method in the OP before we hear from people who actually work with these Lion batteries we have in our phones, and they told us we could keep throwing our phones on a charger periodically during the day because they perform better on a fuller charge. And it was actually extremely harmful to these types of batteries to run them down that far. They said to never let your battery run down to the point where your phone shuts off. That will cause serious damage to the battery.

Many thanks to everyone who posted in this thread and on this forum. I was freaked out after I flashed my first ROM SC 2.8 and my battery just R-A-C-E-D to empty, but Landshark got me all fixed up. BTW, I let my phone completely discharge yesterday on the advice of an older thread, but so far the battery seems to be performing fine after running bstats on terminal emulator. Keep your fingers crossed for my juicebox! Thanks again.

Hey guys, I am pretty new to nandroid back-ups and I had a quick question. Earlier today, I charged my phone, turned off and charged, then charged, and ran the battstats in Terminal Emulator. My battery hasn't drained all the way so I haven't been able to do the full charge on it yet. My question is, will performing a nandroid back-up negate the bstats wipe, since I wiped the stats after my last back-up? Might be a dumb question, but I want to make sure I do the batt wipe correctly. Thanks for any input.

i am thinking the nondroid will have whatever bat stats at the time of back up.
