[How To][Links] Themes, ROMs, Kernels, Boot Animations: 9-16-11

All Ive done is flashed the EB01 Froyo.

The Stock EB01 contains a kernel that will play the stock boot animation file (bootani.qmg)... it is not set up to play the (zip) file... to get the custom bootanimation.zip files to play you will have to flash a froyo kernel of your preference (see links) - then you will have to delete the stock (bootani.qmp) file from your system media folder or you will have boot animations playing on top of each other...

Hope this helps.

OK...yet ANOTHER newbie question...what is the difference in the 2? Voodoo vs non?

Don't worry about voodoo for now. Get used to using your phone and flashing different things in different ways on nonvoodoo before thinking about voodoo.

While all of this is running, I have another stupid question. Ever since I flashed 2.2, my phone will not charge while powered off. If I plug in an AC charger it will auto turn on. If its on while on a charger and I turn it off, it will power back on by itself after about 10-15 secs? Is this norm?
On the flip side, it WILL charge powered off if connect to the computer or a USB source?

I have never heard of this one before... It's strange how it will charge from a USB, but not the wall outlet..

Anyways listen to Landshark about flashing the NONvoodoo kernel.

I remember seeing this mentioned once or twice before. Might take a while to get the memory kickstarted or find it through a search

Flashed the new kernel, removed the qmp stock bootanimation, and VWAALAA!!...new boot animation!!!

YOU GUYS ARE GENTLEMEN AND SCHOLARS!!!!!
Thanks a TON for the help thus far!!

So, now on to the next question. I flashed the recommended nonvoodoo Comavalt kernel. What does this do for me? Whats its purpose?

EDIT - just to clarify, I installed it from my SDCard using the CWM. Is this correct?

Yes that is correct.

And I know one part of comavolt is that it is undervolted and it saves battery life. It's working great on my phone.

Thats awesome! I know with the stock 2.1 on my Fascinate, I could theoretically go 3 days or so with out charging it if I wanted, but usually charged it every night or every other night. I just liked showing off to all my friends that have the "EVO" and cant get more than 8-10 hours!!! I LOVE IT!!!
So, I did go into CWM and reset my battery stats this afternoon after I flashed the new kernel and charged it back up to 100%, just to refresh everything and make sure that the battery chip was rightfully communicating with the sw/os.

We will see...

Thanks tho for the input. ANY AND ALL at this point is greatly appreciated and much welcomed!!

Jae I finally just went Voodoo!!!! Im on ComaVolts 4/11 think his newest. What is the best battery saver kernel you have found or anyone for that matter??? I was hoping this will help now! Also what the heck is so special about voodoo I see nothing special except high quad scores. Thanks guys!! I flashed

Hmmm... I would think that you could have some muting of colors depending on certain features (screen brightness - developing theme... etc...) - I do know that you must have your brightness turned up all the way for voodoo color to be fully effective.. If you suspect that your kernel is causing some feature or artifact you do not like - you can switch kernels and see if that changes what you experience..

I have never had a kernel, or ROM mute colors.. I have seen hardware (screens) that have been damaged (physically) that cannot display certain colors..

Start with the easy stuff -check brightness, swap themes, kernels, ROMs, and if you are still getting odd display effects.. may be hardware.

You are running the best kernel for battery performance from my experience..

Performance: voodoo runs internal processes faster than the nonvoodoo kernels.. it does have some speed enhancements - may not be noticeable.... until you go back.. If you choose to use the voodoo sound features - playing music.. there is also a voodoo color enhancement for the screen..

The same rules for battery conservation.. must condition the battery for the kernel you are using.. I did not see good battery performance for the first couple of days.. be patient.

If you are really wanting to go for speed of performance then you can drive a voodoo kernel that has been set to run faster - but there is usually a battery trade off..

Welcome to the voodoo cult ;)

I dont play music with the phone so that isnt the issue it is the screen. If i have it at 100% wont that kill the battery?? Also when it was up all the way it was humming every once in a while. Thanks!! Yah i have a feeling im not going back. U know I am not patient when it comes to condionting batteries!! Hence trying Voodoo for a few days! LOL O:-)

You are correct: Full brightness of the screen will help to deplete you battery even faster.. There is always a trade off of performance vs. battery durability..

Until someone perfects a nuclear powered battery - we are going to be challenged with being tied to a charger.

Is there a solution to the humming screen while brigjness at 100%? Also do I need an app for the color enhancements?

I have not found a solution to the hum produced by the screen brightness.. I do know that unless you have to have the screen up at that brightness - keep it turned down.

No app needed for the voodoo color and contrast.

OK...I just flashed to Superclean 2.9.2 and used CWM to load the ComaVolt kernel. Is this correct or did the Superclean 292 already come with this kernel? I didnt think at first, but I hope I didnt just flash an older version of the kernel over the newer one...:-\
