[How-To] Manual Rooting of LS670ZVH/ZVJ (+ links to root ZVD/ZV9)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

i used a program where you can root and unroot and i thought that it wasn't permanent but i'm guess i'm just slow lol but it did work sorry for all the problems but thanks for all your help!
Well, it isn't permanent in the sense that it is irreversible. It is permanent in the sense that it is persistent and will survive reboots.

You can easily "reverse" and unroot your phone by removing those two files.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I'm at step 6. After running install.bat form command prompt successfully with no errors, i tried reboot into recovery from adb shell and it says operation not permitted. what should I do??

If you have trouble with that step, please substitute with, unplug usb cable, power down, simultaneously press and hold [Power] [Vol Dwn] [Home] until Recovery shows up, release buttons, plug in usb cable

(Thnks for being so patient)

Which error did you get in step #6? I didn't see anything mentioned. There should be no errors.

Regarding Step #7, did you read Note 1 for Step #6?

why don't i see reboot in the power menu?? just the power off option along with airplane more and sound.
how do we get into custom recovery?? power down/ power on with the 3 button combo??
and any way to make sure custom recovery is installed??

Adding "Reboot" to the power menu is something you are going to need to get from a custom ROM.

You can verify Xionia CWMA recovery by disconnecting USB cable, powering down, simultaneously pressing and holding [Power] [Vol Dwn] [Home] until Recovery shows up. It will be obvious if it is Xionia.

You can also enter "adb reboot recovery" or from within "adb shell" as root, enter "reboot recovery"

If you followed the instructions and got no errors, I'm sure you have Xionia CWMA recovery installed and are ready to install custom ROMs as they are developed. You can start with gROM if you want.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Yes, could see Xionia recovery on the recovery screen. Downloading gROM now :)
So, if I want to go back to CM7, is there anything I need to keep on mind or just flash the cm7 rom like we always do?? also, by flashing a cm7 rom, will it change the baseband??
Also, i remember you saying that PRL/Profile updates are unnecessary. How bout system update and firmware update??

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I don't know what happened, but when I rebooted after installing permanent root (Step 6), the screen just goes blank after the LG logo. Any ideas or steps to get the phone back to working condition? Thanks.

CM7 stuff you should ask on one of the CM7 threads. I'm guessing there might be some incompatibilities but don't know the extent.

I don't think I said PRL/Profile updates are outright unnecessary. If your data is working, than Profile is unnecessary and the newer PRLs are worse than the older ones, in general, but if there is something specific you know you want in the PRL, then by all means go for it.

Don't do system or firmware update. They'll just try to upgrade your Android, which in the best case is a waste of time and in the worst case can break things because you don't have what they expect.

Do you have the new LCD and how did you invoke the reboot?

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I have the new LCD and invoked reboot through the pc command line "adb reboot." For the previous steps, I could see the recovery screen through the Android Screencast applet.

I'm not sure exactly what solved the problem, but I held the Volume Down, Camera, and Power button and it seemed to boot into recovery. Then pressing the Menu key allowed it to reboot into the stock rom. It looks like I'm back in business. Thanks, sfhub, for the quick reply!

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

This is correct - went through this rooting process yesterday using Linux without a hitch.

Actually, it looks like the directions have been changed since I did it a few days ago. I rooted early when there were temporary instructions up. This must be the promised more detailed instructions. They look good, but now the directions involve running an install.bat file and the .zip includes the Windows ADB executable so you don't have to have the Android development api installed on your computer already. I guess it probably works pretty nicely for Windows uses, but Linux and Mac users can't follow them.

If anyone wants to use Linux, at step 6, jump to this thread:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...-guide-rooting-software-version-ls670zvc.html
Start at the section that says "This guide assumes you have added the Android SDK tools directory to your PATH variable." So you'll have to have ADB installed locally on your machine. It's not hard at all. Follow the rest of those instructions and you'll have root.

It looks like the directions here on this thread also customized the recovery installation instructions. If you want to then install a custom recovery and you have Linux, just go to the source and follow those instructions - work like a charm:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...covery-xionia-clockwork-cwma-v1-2518-6-a.html

If you have a Mac, following the same instructions above will probably work, since everything is done in adb - so once you have that installed on your computer, you're good.

You can still run it from linux. Download zvhroot.zip and unzip into your linux adb folder. Instead of running install.bat, just run the adb command in that file. The scripts are all just convenience scripts to reduce typing errors.

install.bat ==
adb push copy2sd /sdcard/

The scripts that run on the phone are unaffected by using a linux-based PC. You are welcome to run the equivalent by typing the individual commands, but IMO it is easier to run the script as there is far less typing (and thus far less chance for mistakes).

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Ok I followed everything and have zvh booting, but I don't have any screen image. I can only see it in sreencast
I've got xioni's recovery installed, I know I missed something somewhere.:-[
What step did I miss to get it working?

Did you run the ZVH update.zip, Step #4? Were there any errors?

What does your settings->about phone say?

I did, and my phone is saying:

Android version
2.3.3

Baseband version
LS670MVH_6150

Kernel version
2.6.35.7-perf
lg-electronics@si-rd10-BLD165 #4

Build number
ZVH.41FEDAD5

SW Version
LS670ZVH

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

So that Android is not displaying anything on your phone's display? I am stumped. Have never seen that before and can find no obvious explanation. Does your phone display anything when you boot into Recovery? There's nothing in the rooting scripts that could produce what you are seeing (just copying some files into /system) It must be some interaction between LG's ZVH update and your phone. Did you ever have ZVH display something on your screen?

Ok so Nothing was showing on the phone at all, just the back light on. Everything was showing in Screencast. Wife called and I went to answer it and unplugged the USb and screen came on weird. Had unplugged it multiple times before getting it to boot into recovery.
