[How-To] Manual Rooting of LS670ZVH/ZVJ (+ links to root ZVD/ZV9)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Is there a way to do all this using a Mac OS X 10.6.8? Any input would be great. :)
Assuming you are currently on ZVD, you can do it from Mac as long as you have adb installed. The install.bat just copies the files from within the copy2sd folder to the sdcard. You can do that by hand if you want using adb or using USB mass storage mode and drag/drop.

If you need to revert, then that can only be done on windows because it uses a tool from LG.

Problem is somewhere on your side. You probably got a corrupted download. I downloaded just now and unzipped no problem. Also ran md5sum and it matches the original.

Check if you have a virus checker that might have tried to "quarantine" the zip file.
I deleted the zip file, disabled virus protection, downloaded again and got it to work. Thanks

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

So... now I will flash V8 then flash VD?
If so, can I also root it, flash v9 recovery and apply ZVH update?
I'm aiming at gROM. or whatever makes my lg fast and reliable.
I use the free wifi for my college education but they got me before I got my coffee.
Now I want payback!

You can go directly to whichever version v8, v9, vc, vd.

So in your case you flashed to v9 by mistake, so you will just need to flash directly to vd.

Then follow the zvh rooting directions (including the portions about rooting vd and installing stock v9 recovery)

I can't even get the adb shell to work, the cp just says "device not found"

Please verify
1) your phone is currently rooted
2) you have USB debugging enabled
3) you have USB mass storage disabled
4) your phone is connected to the PC via USB cable
5) when you connected your phone, you heard the USB ding sounds and there are no USB errors in the task bar

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

When you say "yes to all 5" are you going by memory or did you go and reverify. Sometimes the settings get changed through some process that was being done, but since you didn't actively change anything, it might not be immediately obvious the change happened.

What does it say when you type "adb devices"?

If it says something like "not found" then you need to fix that first.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

im running reborn rom, i have superuser, i havent changed anything since i rooted.

What I'm trying to tell you is "adb" is not finding your device. Any number of things might cause that, including (but not limited to) driver problem, bad usb port, bad usb cable, usb debugging not turned on, etc.

There is nothing in the rooting package that could cause what you are seeing. All it is doing is asking adb to copy some files over as a convenience for you typing it yourself.

So my suggestion is to get "adb shell" working outside of the rooting package. Once you get that working, the rooting package will work according to the instructions.

You can start by killing the adb server and allowing a new one to start. In the command prompt / android sdk tools dir, type:
adb kill-server

Then see if you can do "adb shell" or "adb devices"

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Hello, sfhub. It's me again.
I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes but I don't know anyone else that set up a set of instructions that works as good as yours. The problem is that "no one else" "just me".... I attempted to change the boot animation with some random "one touch" Miracle app. Now, it's in a boot loop. I know, I promise, it won't ever happen again.
I have the LG670ZBVH, It was rooted. Not sure now.
My actions after this follows in chronological order:
1. Rebooted into recovery,----- Holding the buttons.
2. Wipe data factory reset,------ Found out later, the boot amine is not included in the wipe.
3. Wipe cache partition,----- What was I thinking? That doesn't even make sense.
4. Applied sdcard:update.zip, Attempted adb su,----- No Dice.(it can't find the DIR.)
5. Hysterically contacted you.
I know it's not bricked. So... my question is; what part of your instructions should I start with. Should I revert to VD or start over.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

When doing the following I do not get the expected error, am I doing something wrong? How will I be able to tell if I'm fully rooted?

Once booted into recovery:
Pres [Vol Dwn] button once to highlight "apply sdcard:update.zip" [pic]
Press the [Menu] button to run the update.zip. You will see an expected error [pic]

From PC command prompt, start an adb shell session

So when did you get into a boot loop, at step 0, 2, 3, 4?

Which recovery are you running? Xionia or stock V9?

When you say you don't get the expected error, is that because your screen is blank or it just says something else?

What does it say on the screen when you selected "apply sdcard:update.zip"?

Did you successfully run the install.bat command in Step *#6*?

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I'm starting fresh, when running the adb shell from step 3, when typing su, I get permission denied

Any help would be greatly appericated, want to get this rooted by the end of the day

You can't "start from fresh" (ie first step of the instructions) after completing step #4 (apply ZVH update) because applying the ZVH update would have unrooted you.

From there, you can only move forward, assuming you have the stock V9 recovery (ie completed step #3) or you need to revert to VD first and root it, then start from fresh.

Please answer the questions I asked regarding step #5 and hopefully we can move forward.

When I reverted back to VD I used GingerBreak and showed that the root was complete. I'm currently running the following:
BB Version - LS670MVH_6150
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-perf
lg-electronis@sl-rd10-BLD165 #4
Build Number - ZVH.41FEDAD5
SW Version - LS670ZVH

To refresh your memory, these are the questions I asked earlier:

What does it say on the screen when you selected "apply sdcard:update.zip"?

Did you successfully run the install.bat command in Step *#6*?

Also, did you ever successfully complete step #3, flash V9 recovery?
