[HOW-TO] [NEW VERSION] Install Nookie Froyo to Internal Memory

Just did this, and I have no market, I don't mean it does not work, I mean I do not have a market icon. Also my device is not recognized when plugged into USB. Keep getting "error: device not found" in adb. - attempting to install the overclocked kernel.

Going to try again, maybe I missed a line or something? I don't think that's the case, but you never know.

Followed the second method.

You still have to install Google Apps, further down the OP, to get Market and whatnot.

As far as 'device not found' . . . If you did the second method, adb was obviously working before, so your drivers should be fine. Try a reboot. These cables can be finicky too, make sure it's completely plugged in.

Well ****!!!

so according to EpicFail236 (very appropriate name might I add) the Market Download problem is fixed by mounting a SDCard in the NC.

Will, can you put this in note in the OP? I'm guessing I, like most of the others, took out the "Nookie SD" after installing on the internal memory and didnt have an extra or think to reformat and install back in the NC after the install. I know I didnt reformat in case I ran into problems and needed to use it to boot.

I saw that post, but when I had that problem, I'm pretty sure I was getting it even with an SD in. I want to find out more before declaring it a fix here.

Did it work for you?

Thanks, didn't see that!

However, I still get the same error. For example:

C:\android-sdk-window>adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
error: device not found

Nook says USB connected. Unplugged the cord, replugged a few times, rebooted a few times, even restarted windows. Same error.

Not sure what's up with this. When I boot off the SD card, every things good, but after flashing I keep getting this error. This is my second attempt tonight.

Nook shows up in windows as Removable Disk(J: )

Maybe try:

adb killserver

Then:

adb startserver

Probably not that simple, but worth a try.

Haven't heard of this before, where device is found on sd but not on emmc. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

You could try installing drivers all over again, this time with the nook booted on internal mem, and see if that helps. If the file linked to in the OP doesn't work, read here.

adb start-server/kill-server is what I needed to use. :) - But it didn't work.

What did work was reinstalling the USB drivers for the nook. Some how windows forgot all about the drivers. Going back to Linux just as soon as I figure out how to get this damned magicjack working under Suse.

Thanks for the help! Much appreciated!

Did a reboot and now the NC wont power on. Any suggestions? I didnt really make any changes to the system, just cleared the Market Cache and Google Service Framework Data...

I just did the install and everything works great. My only question is when i check my available internal storage space available it is only showing around 800MB available. Is that right? I thought i should have more since it has a couple of gigs built in.

That's normal. I imagine Nookie will eventually find a way to use the on-board storage, but not yet. For now, an SD will have to do.

Fixed.

Inserting the SD card did not work for me. Still have market issues. Also I used adb to install several apps, and some of them don't seem to have write permissions. SetCPU crashes whenever I try to apply any changes, tapatalk does the same thing when I put in my username/password. A few app managers could not uninstall the apps either. Rootexplorer allow me to delete some of the apps, but reinstalling did not help.

EDIT:
Fixed this. SD card was damaged: Managed to fix my own problem. NC kept telling me that the card was damaged, and every time I tried to format via the NC it would fail stating the the card was damaged - Which it very well may be. However I loaded it up in windows, created a new folder "New Folder", inserted it back into my NC, and all was right with the world. Market now works again, after canceling the previous downloads, it all seems to work. Just have to reinstall the apps again so they get proper permissions.

Same thing happened to me. I restored my Nook to the factory default and did the 2.2 froyo installation using the first method (last time i used the second). everything installed fine, and i pushed google apps with adb. also used adb to push button savior to device. market still wasn't working for me (unsuccesful downloads), so i tried putting an SD card into it. initially it said SD card was damaged and couldn't format it. i shut the nook down, and now it won't power up (same problem i had last time). using a 32gb class 10 micro SD card from wintertec. dunno if that matters. Nook won't turn on, but if i put a froyo sd card in it'll boot back up so i can restore it again.

probably giving up on the 2.2 internal froyo. tried 2.2 froyo on my class 10 microsd card, but it never boots. just says android with blinking cursor and never loads.

Yeah, I got mine to finally boot last night with Nookie on SD and then had to reinstall to internal memory to get the NC to boot without it.

Is there a list of working and not working features? This is what I've discovered not working:
  • Facebook Sync to Contacts
  • Music - I've tried Stock Player, WinAmp and DoubleTwist
  • Video - I get audio but no video. Audio continues after app FC
Are others having the same problems? Anything else not working?

The "Damaged SD Card" issue seems to be common. The way I fixed it was by formatting the card, then I had to write something to the card via windows/Linux, anything it does not matter, make a new dir, txt file, whatever- at least that fixed it for me. When I popped the card back in, everything was good, market issues where fixed also.

Just got sleep death, and now it wont boot either. Worked fine all day. I think I mine just got updated to the new 1.1.0, that's why...

I have gotten my NC rooted and I have the SD card written with the image for doing the second version of this install. When I go into shell and try to create a directory I get this;
mkdir tmpfolder
mkdir: can't create directory 'tmpfolder': Read-only file system

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

You're either skipping or mistyping the very first command. That's what gives you read-write access. Look again very carefully (or just copy/paste).

Hmm I had the same problem with ADB. It was obviously working to get "Nookie on internal" working but after reboot ADB died even loading the ADB drivers from the OP. I lodaed the drivers on my Windows 7 netbook and I now have ADB back. I just can't get ADB to work on wither of my XP machines after the "Nookie on internal" OP. But on the otherhand "Nookie on internal" with the overclock works GREAT!! very smooth and fast and Flash works again!!

Thanks Andy

I also am having problems with the market installed from the google apps zip. I cannot download anything with either Nookie on SD or on internal memory. I reformatted my Class 10 Patriot 8Gb SD card, and wrote a file to it (end rebooted Nook), but still no luck.
