[How-to][NEW VERSION] Run Nookie Froyo off SD card

I used an 8gb and used win32 to load nookie...The card now only has 117mb of free space. I've tried to reformat it but really that only erased things on it but it has kept the tiny space..what do I do and what did I do wrong

I get this issue to, and i use the sdcardformatter program as well. Was there a certain way I was suppose to format it?

I get an error message after i input

adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
i get "error: protocol fault <no status>

OP updated - new version has been released. YouTube, Pandora, and MP3's all play nicely now!

Can someone tell me if there is a way to install this updated version without having to start from scratch?

I literally just got all the apps I wanted, and widgets the way I want them, screen the way I like it, and all that fun stuff.

Do I really have to start from scratch and do it all over again to YouTube?

haha, thanks in advance

Replaced uImage, u-boot.bin, and uRamdisk with the new versions, and Pandora seems to work well. Youtube doesn't work at first (you hear audio, but no video), but closing it, and going back in, it works. If you try this, be sure to back up the original files.

I'd be interested in what else is needed to successfully upgrade from 0.5.9 to 0.6.6.

There is a way of pushing some of the files, but the easiest way is to do a Titanium Backup, wipe clean and flash the update, then install Titanium and do a restore.

Do you need to purchase the the full version, or will the free version work fine?

and thank you for the reply!

Hi all your thoughts are most appreciated. BTW this is Nookie running from SD 0.6.6 version. I did the section I quoted below and it all goes smoothly but when NC reboots, nothing seems changed. No apps installed. All apks look like being pushed correctly...here is a snippet:

"push: C:\Programs\Nookie\system/CarHomeLauncher.apk -> system/CarHomeLauncher.ap
k
push: C:\Programs\Nookie\system/CarHomeGoogle.apk -> system/CarHomeGoogle.apk
33 files pushed. 0 files skipped.
976 KB/s (21531842 bytes in 21.531s)"

"4. Now, with your NOOKcolor connected to your computer's USB port, type the following (of course, hit enter after each line):

adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
adb push [here, enter the path to your SDK tools folder]\system system/
adb reboot"

The system folder should have the apps in another folder called app. You'll want to keep the folder structure as is so everything gets pushed to the right place. It looks like your apps are in system, not system/app.

Thanks, this is what I thought, although I just went with what was noted in OP and on nook devs...does it mean those instructions are wrong? Should I get remove the apks or could I just move them to system/app and that would work? Would I do something like: adb shell -> mv *.apd ./app, do I need to do that remount thingy before doing this? Thanks a million for the help btw.

The free version of Titanium will do the job, but you're going to run into a lot of little things that are a bit annoying... like re-installing apps? You have to accept permissions for every single one with the free version, paid version, just hit restore, and it does everything for you. It's a couple bucks, if you're giong to be doing a lot of ROM changing and backing up and such, I'd say it's worth the $$$ for the full version!

Hi,

Apologies for this newbie issue. I downloaded Win32DiskImager ( win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.2-r23-win32.zip), along with the lastest version of Nookie (nookie-froyo-SDIMAGE_2GB-0.6.6.img.gz). I unzipped the Nookie image using 7-ZIP (ending image file was about 1.8Gb in size).

Using Win32diskimager, I then wrote the image file onto a blank 4GB (class 6) microSD card. After writing the image, I checked the card from file explorer and saw the following files:
- MLO
- u-boot.bin
- uImage
- uRamdisk

The total size of the files were very small, less than 3MB. I then placed the microSD card in the Nook (running 1.1 firmware) and turned it on. Instead of booting into Froyo, it boots into the stock Nook firmware.

I downloaded the firmware image again and used WinRAR, then burned the SD card using WinImage, but same result. Am I doing something wrong?

Apologies for this basic question. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Once you update, get your Market working, download Titanium Backup, install, choose the batch function just like you did to back it up, but choose to "restore" whichever settings you saved... if just apps, then choose that one, if apps + system data then that one (can cause some funky things to happen tho). Pretty simple process.

So if I flash this new image to the SD card over what I currently have, it will not overwrite my backup info for titanium?

Any time you flash something over a drive, it's going to replace it. Most programs warn/state that before you start. The best way is to have a card that you use for your flashing, and a second card that you use as your SD storeage after you're all mounted. If you're using the same card, you can do your backup, copy the backup data to your computer, flash your image, and then put your backup data back onto the newly flashed card, just like you would in moving files around on any external hard drive.
