[How To] One-Click Root Your Droid X [Official 2.2 OTA]

No matter what I do, I continue to get 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file' on everything. I'm not quite sure why...I keep following the directions step by step and the same thing happens constantly. I even tried RootMyX2 and it still fails saying that the phone isn't detected...or it just fails after being stuck on "waiting for device." I rooted my Samsung Fascinate with no problem earlier...so I'm beginning to think this is just a Motorola thing.

Any ideas or answers?

Why are you rooting through abd, just download z4root from [APP] z4root - xda-developers

Install > Click Root >> reboot and done.

I rooted via one click back in November then noticed last week it was gone for some reason. Tried and tried to get it back with one click with no success.

Finally got it back using the z4root app d/l. But that took many attempts also, finally worked after rebooting and clearing the cache out.

i give up

This is insane. I've tried doing the manual command line root many times and can get down to the 2nd adb shell command but never get the # prompt. I've tried numerous times doing the one-click method and after it says "adb connection will be reset. restart adb server on desktop and re-login." it reconnects, says daemon not running restarting it now on port 5037, success. checking for device...

And then sits there checking for device. I cannot get passed that part no matter what I do. I've used PC mode, charging mode, media sync mode, all with debugging and it does no good.

Any ideas?

you didn't copy or unzip the doroot files into the sdk platform-tools folder.

I am using the Z4 and I've only used it once (as a temp root) and it seemed to work (after locking up and rebooting). I ran wireless tether and Titanium to check. Anyhow, I am trying to re-root (again, using only the temp) and while Z4 says it rooted the phone successfully actually, it didn't do anything. I ran both TItanium and Wireless and both say I don't have root access even though Z4 says it was completed.

Any ideas? I am hesitant to do a permanent root, especially with Z4.

i have followed directions step by step but in the command prompt that starts when i run 'doroot' it says 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Any help?

im trying to root my droid x using this and everytime i run it it says "adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
but it goes through everything and says its rooted but its not. i have tried my phone in charge only mode and usb mass storage mode both with usb debugging on but still nothing will work. i have the zipped files unzipped and in the sdk tools folder like it said but when i run doroot thats all that happens. can someone please help me and tell me what i am doing wrong?

Ok. I got past that by moving the 5 files to platform tools instead of tools and it fixed the adb problem. Now its hit and miss on connecting. I can get it to run through the first stage but then it gets to where it resets the connection but then it just says checking for device. If I get it past that point then it goes through everything but it all says failed to connect or something and fails the root at the end.

I don't think this method works anymore.

You can find z4 root on XDA. Its and app you install then run and that will root your phone.

I tried the z4root on my phone and it didn't work. It said root was successful but i couldn't run any root apps.

Did you reboot afterwards?

I've had to reboot then run it again before.

You may have to run it a couple times before root sticks.

I just used z4root again ,wednesday of this week after bricking, sbfing and rerooting .
I found for me after installing z4root if I reboot phone before I try and use that app it works first time on Perm. root
