How to open plain text URL

I'm in Chrome 34 on Android 4.4.2 and a web page contains a URL as normal text, not marked up as a link. How do I open it?

I selected it and tapped the share button: nothing useful.

I copied it and tapped around in the address bar: no way to paste!?

So I get a piece of paper, write the URL down from the screen of my phone, scrolling in the process, then tap in the URL bar and type it in again? Sure.
