how to organize/sort notification shade by time

I typically have 10-30 notifications in my notification shade. My phone will vibrate to tell me that SOMETHING has happened. When I unlock the phone, I have no idea WHICH of the things in my notifications list just buzzed me. I have to scroll through all of the notifications and hope that the "time" on the right will clue me in to which thing just happened.

IF the notifications were sorted by time, I could just look at the top item. I want this.

I can't find anything on this, other than forum suggestions that it is sorted by time by default - which my notifications are NOT.

Any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have? This is not commonly available on most phones. The Honor 5X does have a timeline-style notification panel, but I don't think you can get that on another phone, even if you were somehow able to install the EMUI (Huawei) launcher.
