how to permanently delete duplicate and garbage contacts?

I've deleted a few hundred..they keep coming back. Is there a way to mass edit?

Turn on Airplane mode. Turn your phone off. Go to Google Contacts. Pull down More to merge duplicates. Delete garbage. Once everything is the way you want it, export a file to your computer.

Turn your phone on. Delete all your contacts. Turn wifi or mobile data on and let it sync. (The exported file is just insurance if something goes wrong.)
