Android Central Question

I was using the fx file explorer app to copy the whatsapp media folder to another folder in the device (download), it said there were 10k+ files, in the middle of the process I got an error message saying there wasn't space enough in the recipient folder, i cancelled the task and when i went to check the space available I noticed every file and folder was missing. no app folders no download folder, no nothing. tried clearing fx's cache, turning the phone on and off, and connecting to the computer and deleting the .nomedia files (there were 30) nothing worked. I really need to recover some .md files generated by an app called Writer+, all the other data missing i can live without, but this files are very important.

hello! Its a Motorola MotoG 5S. I did not use the move command. I copied a folder called media from the whatsapp app main folder and tried to paste it into the phones download folder. then halfway through the process I got an error message. then all the files were gone, and the other apps folders too. I dont care about any other media missing such as videos photos or documents, just the notes I made in the Writer+ app that were saved as .md files

does anyone have any recommendation on android apps or windows programs that recovery files that aren't audio, video and document formats?
Things I have tried: tried clearing fx's cache, turning the phone on and off, and connecting to the computer and deleting the .nomedia files (there were 30) nothing worked. I also tried to run an app called "media.re.scan" and it found nothing. I have other file managers installed and they all show a blank storage space. I'm pretty desperate at the moment...
