How to register for the LG warranty if your phone was a gift but brand new?

On LG's website you have to attach the receipt for the phone to register it for warranty purposes. My phone was a gift, brand new in a sealed box, zero time on calls, time on, definitely never used. My daughter bought it on Swappa. No problems with the phone except it seems I'm not able to get a warranty on it from LG because I do not have a original receipt. Can't LG use the IMEI number to see the phone has never been registered, also the build date was 10/22/2017. So the phone was built and shipped from LG less than a month ago.

Unfortunately and for obvious reasons, they still require proof of purchase. Most formal businesses can supply a gift receipt which LG could use for verification (without showing price, since, you know, gift...) but on Swappa, if you don't have a receipt or way to prove the purchase, LG will not be able to register the device, regardless of whether or not it's been registered before.

You can call them and try to explain the situation, but most likely you'll get the same answer.

Thanks, that what I figured, so new phone - no warranty. Just got it so might just do a square trade warranty on it.

Isn't there a way that you can get a receipt from the seller? Or see if the transaction record on Sawppa would suffice for LG?

Yes, I was wondering if the Swappa transaction paperwork would work also. I'm going to email the seller and find out if they have any kind of receipt also. It appears to be a business not just an individual seller.

Well, this is interesting. In Sept/Oct, I also bought two new Lg G6 phones from Swappa. Went to LG website and registered both using their IMEI without any issues and no receipts. Was hoping to maybe snatch up their original offering of a '2 year warranty' but no luck, just the 1 year. After reading over this post, went back to LG website to re-check info, and I'm still resistered. Love the phone, but sorry to hear about your registration problems.

captfbgnet, Thanks for the info, I haven't even tried to register it yet, I just looked at the LG website and after seeing the section that asked for you to attach / upload a copy of the receipt, I just stopped there and haven't tried to register it yet. I'll be happy with even the 1 year warranty. I usually only keep my phones a year anyway. Thanks for the information.
