[How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD, using KP500 (Diag mode)

Re: [How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD,

Get the Updater program to recognize phone, but when it goes to "download" it throws an error. Screenshot attached.

Some info: User the Ginger cracker and installed a custom rom earlier. Using a Win7 computer. Would like to go back to VC so hotspot works again. Hotspot does not work with Gingerbread cracker root with custom rom. "About" still shows ZVD software version. Rooted ZVD can only get ad-hoc wifi-tethers to work, want the AP (Infrastructure) embedded on phone accessible with ZVC. Can then use to connect with PS3 in AP mode. Thanks
Ok, after reading others' questions, I went to a Windows Vista laptop and ran the whole kit and kaboodle. It went in just fine, updated just fine. Of course on final restart, it downloaded ZVD and told me it was ready to install. I just pulled the battery and now, hopefully, no nags and no install of ZVD. Installed Harold Mullers HotSpot and all good to go.

Thanks so much for the steps.

Re: [How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD,

OK So this works until about 94%, and the phone reboots boots to LG white logo than to the battery charging animation, while % goes from 95 to like 97 (i think, pretty fast) and errors out, problem with communication between cell phone and pc. I've tried several times, I've also pulled usb and plugged back in several times and tried restart. Any suggestions would be great. Here's the log. Also, I cannot boot to anything but emergency mode, or white LG logo; from a bad firmware install or something, phone belongs to a friend, trying to fix it.

Re: [How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD,

please help me, i do get the error "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application/
Data\LGMOBILEAX\image\header_bg.gif was not found" but i do have the lg mobile support tool. what am i doing wrong? do i need it specifally installed somewhere for it to register? i greatly appriciate the help everybody. thx

Also after i get that message, my phone goes through with trying to update and gets to just about the end, then it suddenly "unexpectedly quits working" and exits. Leaving my phone not being able to get any service. I'm sure this has to do with the error about not having lg's tool.

Actually I got service now but please some1 help me out with the error

If you don't have that file, then even though you install LG mobile support tool, it wasn't properly installed. I would try deinstalling, then reinstalling.

Re: [How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD,

oy, i typed a really lengthy reply only to have been logged out. important message shortened: DO NOT USE WINDOWS 7. It loads up to 100%, although warning you that the header_gif file could not be located multiple times. This is because on win7, the lg support tool does not download correctly. save yourself a ton of time and stress, and use vista! it worked magnificently on Vista, save some roadblocks with the drivers. just make sure to download all of the drivers.

It is having trouble unpacking the cab file.

Please post the results of the following:
c:
cd \KP500-Utils-EN-v0.4.2
fsum *.cab

Re: [How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD,

I had the same extract error because I didn't specify the path to the .cab file. Took me a couple tries to figure out my error.

It does not matter if you place the .cab file in the same directory you launched kp-500 from you still have to specify the path.

IE:

listing the files simply as:

ls670zvd.cab

will not work.

If kp-500 is in c:\kp-500\ directory on you computer, AND the .cab file is inside that directory you have to list the path to the file as:

c:\kp-500\ls670zvd.cab

On my pc i simply placed the .cab file on the root of my c: drive so my path using kp-500 looked like:

c:\ls670zvd.cab

At least this worked for me. If that however does not work, check your file name. Additionally download the file again as the one you have may be corrupt.

Re: [How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD,

How long am I supposed to wait at step r? It's been at the "android" screen for almost an hour now.

You must have had a not so obvious typo (sometime when you rename in windows it hides the extension, so the file is actually called something.cab.cab but it displays as something.cab), a corrupt file, out of space on drive, or some other filesystem error.

I can assure you that KP500 looks in the current directory when a full path is not specified. I've done the updates over 50 times and probably 15 times just testing the instructions. The program is deterministic, so I cannot believe it would look there for me and others, but not for you.

Re: [How-to] Revert to LS670V9, after installing OTA LS670VC/VD,

What did you revert to and do you have the new LCD?

V9 and it is the new LCD. I did see the screen through screencast, however it was sitting at the android screen for well over an hour, so being a noob I tried to force flash to VD. The LG tool reported a fatal error and stopped. Now it boots but I cannot see the screen through screencast nor LCD. Trying to see if there's an unbrick thread somewhere.

Found another thread that helped: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...s/59781-un-brick-method-some-forms-brick.html

No more brick, I'm back to ZVH, un-rooted of course.

When you have the new LCD and are reverting to V9, everything can seem like a brick. It takes more experimentation to see if you are really bricked. If you can boot into Recovery (even though you can't see your screen, then you are not really bricked).

If you can boot into recovery, usually you can flash in emergency mode using the unbrick thread.

If you are on ZVH now, with stock V9 recovery, the only thing I could suggest is trying a factory reset first before running KP500, though I'm hesitant to suggest anything because you may be gun shy from the previous experience. Maybe 1 in a 100 KP500 attempts fail like you describe. It certainly isn't common but I cannot guarantee it won't happen again.

BTW I don't see how the unbrick thread got you to ZVH as there is no ZVH cab file available. I think that means your phone never got anything written to it, unless you meant you are now in ZVC or ZVD.

Also be absolutely sure you have USB debugging enable since I don't know what got reset on your phone. If you don't android screencast won't work and it is a b*tch to get it turned on blind.

Also, screencast will only display recovery if you first enable from within android. If you try to enable from recovery, it won't work.

After reboots, adb's background process could get stuck preventing screencast from working. If that is the case, try "adb kill-server" then "adb devices" Assuming no errors, try screencast again.

I was at ZVD which got me working, but getting a lot of process "force close" errors on android.process.acore (stopped unexpectedly). So, I used this thread to help me: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/119130-how-rooting-ls670zvh.html and used steps 1 and 4, which got me to ZVH.

I have to tell you, ZVH is really slow, that's why I originally wanted to go to ZV9 in the first place and root it and eventually go back to ZVD and root that with Gingerbreak.

But now that my phone works, I don't think I will attempt this again. :)

I found ZVH to be unstable at first so I immediately did a factory reset. That fixed the instability.

The after factory reset, I found ZVH to be a bit slow, but I believe that was because it was doing one-time maintenance work in the background. After I left it for a day, it has become as fast or faster than ZVD.

Thanks sfhub, I will do a factory reset as well.
