7. Type: chmod +x "./Easy_Fre3vo_Redo.command"

*Older method saved for educational purposes*

Disclaimer : This method requires use of adb.

1. Download the Fr3vo binary HERE, and store it in the same directory as adb.
2. Copy and paste to enter the following commands into your terminal window one at a time.
Code:
adb push fre3vo /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fre3vo
adb shell /data/local/tmp/fre3vo

This is temporary root. A reboot will clobber it. Also realize that the system partition is nand-protected (at least on the EVO 3D) so writes won't stick for long, and there will be issues getting tools like Titanium Backup to work. We are still developing upon this huge stepping stone. We look forward to hearing methods other developers have found to build temp root to either make the device better, or gain perm root even.

This *IS* a work in progress.

Good luck guys. Since android is awful about data backups, I've got plenty of things I need to Titanium restore :)

Hope you get something figured out soon. I like Saneless, miss having all the data from my old EVO right now :( Need Titanium Backup back

Re: [How-To] Root EVO 3D (Work In Progress 6/28/2011)

The thing I dont get is why is HTC trying to come up with a OTA to unlock it... all they need to do is release the keys to the online community and we will do the rest....

Re: [How-To] Root EVO 3D (Work In Progress 6/28/2011)

lol, updates? so far nothing has worked.... A few devs are exploring rather unique routes, which is was over my head. In another week or so it will be bounty time.

Been watching the thread over at xda all day... it's pretty interesting watching these guys go to work

Looks like teamwin might be on to something: http://twitter.com/#!/agrabren/statuses/86292199138009088

@agrabren (Kevin Bruckert)
#teamwin is at it again! We just found an bug in the #evo3d which should allow us to a rooting exploit! Stay tuned!!!

Ok, to clarify... We've definitely found a hole. We're working to make an exploit that can take advantage of the hole. It'll take us a day or so to sift through the wreckage (as it were). By time the first attack at the hole was done, my device would only boot with /data mounted as ro and the screen wouldn't turn on. So a factory reset later, and we're sifting through the results. But this is definitely promising.
/which is good, cause I'm getting freaking nowhere messing around with the radio's NVRAM :D

Possibly, it would depend on the exploit used. If its a device specific exploit, like what is being explored for the EVO 3D, then it probably wont.

Re: [How-To] Root EVO 3D (Work In Progress 6/28/2011)

lol how is this close? this is just the recovery, not even a custom recovery....

Ha! My bad. I forgot we could get into recovery with the stock ROM. I thought this was something new. From some of the current comments being made it does seem like they are getting closer. But I, admittedly, don't know all the in's and out's of how these guys do what they do. I just enjoy the fruits of their labor!

TeamWin has root, check his Twitter for updates. Two devices rooted, both original software and OTA.
