[How-To] Root EVO 3D (Temp root 7/9/2011)

Too early to tell for sure, but the general rule is to avoid them if at all possible. Teamwin has said they aren't telling HTC about the hole they found, for fear it'll get patched through OTA, but it's only a matter of time before they find it anyways, so I personally am not installing anything until I have perm root.

Thanks. I think I'll hold off too.

Agrabren has changed his mind and will notify HTC of the exploit.

why would you tell them about the exploit. specially if your the one hacking it and spreading the love.

just don't make no sense to me.

Hackers have been doing this often. The unrevoked team does the same. I guess this open exploit can be dangerous for malware. That's the only thing I can think of.

I was in the IRC channel when agrabren talked.

He said the exploit is really dangerous, that if found by someone else, they could cause a lot of harm to your phone, therefore they are telling HTC. They aren't telling HTC about this exploit until fr3dom has been released AFAIK.

it was that, as well as that he works with nvidia , a competing company, and because of some legal stuff, he has to disclose any information that he found that could give his company an unfair advantage.

Re: [How-To] Root EVO 3D (Temp root 7/1/2011)

As many said, im happy to see the root method is published, but i will not touch it. Titanium is the most important thing that need SU permission on my phone. Everything else is trivial.

The Root worked for me. But the OC and the remove the bloatware did not. Then I noticed like 5 minutes later, I was no longer rooted. I hope we get a good temp Root soon.

For anyone that wants to know how to uninstall HTC sync. You actually just install it to your computer for the drivers and then you uninstall the same HTC sync you just downloaded before temp root. Had me confused at first. Hope this helps someone thats a noob like myself.

Does HTC Sync need to be uninstalled? I use it to update my contacts, so I want to make sure it is necessary.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the Mac instructions. I'm stuck on step 9a with 'No such file or directory errors' :) Any help is appreciated

FYI, I had to change step 5 from cd "desktop/Easy Fre3vo/Macintosh" to
cd "Desktop/Easy Fre3vo Evo 3D/Macintosh"
Otherwise I kept getting 'No such file or directory'. I noticed the name of the folder was 'Easy Fre3vo Evo 3D' so I hope that was correct to change.

I was able to run the ch mod commands after that but when I tried to run the actual file (step 9. (a) Run Easy Fre3vo (Start).command), every line has 'No such file or directory"

I noticed some backward slashes in the very first line of code in the terminal window that opened when I ran the file. Could that be causing all the 'No such file or directory"? Let me know if you need more info. I've attached the output from that terminal window if that helps.

Thanks again!

Update: I decided to open the start command file and copy and paste each line one at a time into the Terminal to see where it gets an error. I was able to run everything successfully until I got to line 22 "./adb shell chmod 755 /vendor/bin/fre3vo" when I pasted that I got Unable to chmod /vendor/bin/fre3vo: No such file or directory

Please let me know if you need more info. Thx.

It looks like the files we updated over at xda, and changed ever so slightly. I have updated the instructions to match.

When the actual permanat root method is released I will post a full walk through with step by step pictures and commands.

Any idea when or if permanent root will come out? When it comes out do we have to unroot the temp one and install permanent root or can we install permanent over the temp one? Any bugs with temp root?

Lol unrooting temp root = rebooting your phone....

Read the rooting FAQ, search for it...

No ETA on perm root, but when its out, i'll post a step by step walk though on how to make it work.

I think it does have to be uninstalled for the entire script to work. I did everything except uninstalling HTC Sync, and I kept getting some message about ADB being old, killing then restarting deamon, then ultimately the script didn't work, about half the commands errored out. It looks like you do get root but without all the stuff that makes root useful (su, busybox(?), etc, specifically Titanium Backup wouldn't run). After uninstalling HTC Sync, the script worked flawlessly for me and Titanium Backup worked as well.

From my understanding HTC sync gives you are the correct drivers. It shouldn't matter if you have it installed while you try to run the scrip.
