How to Root EVO 4g LTE

Ahh yes, you are right sir! Thanks for the correction and sorry for passing on bad info. I try to ensure my source before passing info along but missed that the thread was closed.
For others that have never root'd and ROM'd your phone; it's not for every one. If you're not technical, to some degree, then it may not be the right thing to do. Custom ROM's and kernels bring lots of tweaks and changes to the phone. While some early ROMs may be unstable (and therefor unusable) there are typically a lot of other stable options available. However, the ROMs that tweak the settings and modify the kernel are typically the ones that truly unlock the full potential of the phone's HW! I have always root'd and ROM'd my phones (EVO 4G and EVO 3D) and have never had a warranty issue. Both phones I took into the Sprint store with a custom ROM installed and they always fixed the problem for me. On my EVO 3D I even did the HTC unlock and still had the phone replaced under the warranty (due to a screen issue). Most of the tech/repair guys at Sprint have their devices root'd and ROM'd as well, so they typically don't pay any attention to this kind of thing. If there is ever any issue with having a root'd and ROM'd phone you can always restore the stock ROM via the RUU utility that is available, so this isn't really an issue. It's a fairly long, technical process so if you decide to do this be prepared to see it through to the end. You'll be glad you did.
I never used 4ext recovery but heard great things for users that didn't have s-off. I hope our devs can get s-off on this phone. I really like using TWRP! The touch interface is very nice and easy to use. I also hope that we get s-off so flashing the kernels isn't such a pain in the a$$!
I don't think there is nearly as much to be gained my freeing up space as there is by freeing up memory! Sense 4.0 is a memory pig!! If you haven't been reading some of the threads about multitasking, you should! The fact that this phone has to close down background apps to keep Sense 4.0 running with 1GB of system memory is insane! If the phone can't properly multitask between 5 or more open apps without shutting apps down, the I will be rooting and ROMing ASAP! I like Sense but prefer AOSP ROMs. However, there are typically HW problems in the AOSP ROMs, like camera not working or no 4G (not sure how that will play out with LTE, once LTE is available though). We'll just have to see how many good devs jump on this new device. I'm a huge kushdeck fan, so I hope he throw us some AOSP love!
I need to be rooted asap. I refuse to run stock roms, never did from my windows mobile days to my evo 3d,currently running ICS.
Add far as the legality of rooting, it depends. It allows you to use services (tethering, most notably) that your carrier would charge you more for if you got it on a non-rooted phone. In my mind that is at least dark gray. I know we all might not like that, but using something you normally have to pay for and not paying for it is often called stealing.

Yes sir! I was also running ICS on my E3D! But now the wife has that phone and she is loving it! She can't believe how much faster the E3D is compared to her old E4G. I had to swap our phones out since Best Buy was offering and extra $100 off for E4G trade-ins. I can't believe how slow the E4G is with the old stock ROM!! It's killing me! Especially since I now know that the E4GLTE's are now out of customs and on the way to the stores! I can't wait to have speed back in my hands (even if it's stock... for now)!

Clarification: rooting is not illegal. Tethering when you have not paid for the service is in my book.

Hmmm, not sure I fully agree with that. Internet Connection Sharing (aka ICS, not to be confused with Ice Cream Sandwich) is a native service provided by the OS. This is found in Windows, Linux, Android, and a plethora of other OS's. There is nothing illegal about it. Now, if the carriers choose to lock down that service in the OS they provide on your phone, they are more that welcome to make those changes and charge you as you see fit. However, if you are savy enough to reinstall another OS that does not have this service blocked, then you are well within your legal limits to use such services. The bandwidth you draw by sharing your data connection with your PC is the same, it's not like all of the sudden your 3G connection is now sucking down more data than it normally would! There is no way for Sprint to tell when your PC is pulling data through your phone. They can tell if you are using their Sprint Hotspot app without paying for the service, but if you use a 3rd party app for this there there is no difference to the provider. If my provider wants to charge me for a 3G data connection and I want to split that connection between 2-5 other devices, then why shouldn't I be able to do that? Even if I have 5 devices pulling data through one connection I will not pull any more data than the connection allows. This is how I see it anyway.

I understand your point, but you have the potential to use much more data as a hot spot because you can continually be maxing your information transfer.
Sprint cracked down on heavy abusers in the past year. They have also taken steps (as have all carriers) to limit your ability to install tethering apps in the marketplace, but that's pretty futile.
It's sort of like hacking your cable box so you don't have to pay for pay-per-view events. It always had the capability to show those events, your provider just wants you to pay for them. Is it possible? Sure. Is it legal? No.
Just because they probably won't catch you, or even ever know, doesn't make it ok.
That's my view, anyway.

I think you're right, it is like cable for your tv
If you pay for it, you should be able to use it on any tv in your house. Not just one
It's more like using a wireless router in your house. Sure, your provider will want to charge you more to use their equipment so they can say it's all supported, but that doesn't make it illegal to go to Fry's and buy one and use it, so that multiple computers in your home can share a single connection. I really don't think using the word illegal is even remotely accurate in this case, but I'm not a lawyer so I won't swear that it's not. If you apply p2cactus' ideal to using a wireless router in your home, then you provider has the right to charge you a "service" fee for any additional computer/device that shares your single Internet connection, regardless of the fact that you will never exceed the bandwidth of the connection you are already paying for. Seems pretty silly to me.

Never rooted my OG EVO, but I think I'll start with the EVOLTE in hopes to fix the multi-tasking issue design and also to have tethering.
Right now all this root lingo is a little over my head (eg. AOSP? S-Off? 4ext? TWRP?), but I'm sure I can keep up.
