When trying to flash, I only have four options...

reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
----

What do I do to get the options to pick a custom rom?

That is the standard lg recovery. You don't get custom recovery until after you're rooted and flashed a custom recovery.

If you see "#" then you are rooted. That is separate from whether you have flashed a "custom" recovery partition.

While you have root, you can use flash_image to flash a custom recovery partition which will give you the extra options you are looking for. Look on the custom recovery thread.

I tried several ways which was posted and still cant get 2.2.1 to root. Also tried SuperOneClickv1.6.5-ShortFuse and its freezes.
Any idea how to root 2.2.1?

Did you install the OTA VC update from Sprint?

If so, you need to revert to V9 first before you can root. Instructions are in my signature.

bcs i have an optimus m my metro pcs and its not rooting by any means .i tried z4 n all but doesnt work...evn manual rooting is not returning # sign..

You'd need to find a ROM version for Optimus M which allowed you to root. Then you could flash that ROM. Nothing here will give a new exploit to try, besides the standard known ones.

Just rooted my Optimus One from Telus unlocked and using BELL network.
Currently V10G original rom.
If I upgrade to V10Q rom (or any other rom for that matter), could that cause my device to become unrooted?

Whether V10Q specifically would unroot you only someone who installed it could tell you, which you'd probably more likely find on a forum for your model.

Whether it could unroot you in general, absolutely. VC on Optimus S unrooted you and closed the hole that the root exploit used.

Sorry can't help you that much. Don't have an Optimus M to play with. You could try the 2.2 Android cab for Optimus M. I have no way of testing this. It could brick your phone. I can't really help you beyond pointing out the file.

I see instructions on differnt root methods, 1 if you updated to VC via OTA or 2 if u updated to VC using LG software. What if the phone came from sprint with VC on it, which method do you suggest? revert or whaaa. Thanks in advance.
