I would say try rebooting both pc and phone and then start at
adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage

Maybe with a clean slate things will work out properly.

nothing...

Im trying to think of what could be the problem but im drawing a blank.Try downloading the files again and placing them in tools folder maybe somehow they got corrupt.Other then that i would say keep trying,it doesn't seem that it has worked after a set number of times for everyone.

Also remember that if it says to use a / use / and not a \ and vice versa. That's very important.

and after you push things you will still get a $, not a #. that comes after you ./rageagainstthecage after the chmod's.

You can always copy the commands from the post step by step as you go and paste them into command prompt. It would save you from having to type them all out again and again (though you'll almost memorize them like I did).

I usually get a $ after "adb shell" should i continue still like that or keep trying untill it shows a # after "adb shell"?

after you do ./rageagainsthecage you should get a # when you do adb shell. if you don't you need to go back to the beginning of step 4 and start over.

Ok the basic questions (because this shouldn't be a difficult process so something else is going on).

You're obviously on Windows.

Do you only have one phone plugged in to your computer when doing this?

USB debugging is enabled. You're not mounted as a disk drive, you're just charging.

I'm just trying to get some quirky things out of the way.

ok I finally got past step 4. the adb session ended. the what?
what do i do from there?
./rageagainstthecage (let things sit a couple minutes (2), your phone will disconnect from the computer and you'll be removed from your ADB session)
adb shell This should return a "#" symbol instead of a "$" symbol. If it does you're good. If not go back and start from the beginning of step 4
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
cd /data/local/tmp
./busybox cp su /system/bin
./busybox cp busybox /system/bin
cd /system/bin
chmod 4755 su
chmod 4755 busybox
busybox --install /system/bin
exit
exit

i got to the adb shell and it returned a # i did the chmods and the ./rageagainstthecage
the adb session ended and the phone disconnected. now what?

If you got to the end of step 4 you should have root. Did you go to step 5? Do you have Superuser? Does it grant permission to any root apps? The one I would try is titanium backup. It's a good test.

why not what happened? if you made it all the way through step 4 you should be good. i need to see your latest command prompt. the whole thing please. and what error does super use give you when you try to run it? or when you try to grant permission?

# ./rageagainstthecage
