Cause you said you made it through step 4 once right? Try downloading superuser and titanium and see what it says.

i thought i did. but no. i never got the install part. the last step i get to is " ./rageagainstthecage" then the thing restarts and i wait. the i type in "mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system"
then it says there is no such command.

its cool. i really tried. im beat. ive been at this for days and no go. a vid tutorial would be a thing of wonders. Thank you though.

Are there any benefits to using this method vs the one click z4root that is confirmed to be working with the Optimus T? Is it all about the results, root is root?

Can you post a link please? And this method is easy and should only take 5 minutes.

EDIT: Nevermind I found it. It seems like it does the ADB stuff for you, but I would want Ksmith to chime in and confirm (because it does use rageagainstthecage).

There are some people looking into it. The question really isn't whether or not it will root, because by all indications it will. The question is can you tell what it's doing to your phone while it's doing it?

With the method in post 1 you are performing the commands, so you know what's going on with your phone. Rageagainstthecage is a well documented exploit, and you can see exactly what files are being pushed to your phone.

So what I'm waiting on before I give my recommendation is someone with more knowledge than me in the matter (because I'm not a dev) to give the thumbs up.

With all of that being said it's your phone. If you want root and that's the route you choose to go then go ahead with it. And if you do please post here and let everyone know how it works so we can all benefit from your experience. :)

I see a couple of things that concern me right off the bat. Please don't let my opinion steer you away but heres my thoughts ....

1) The author doesn't provide you with the commands it runs. I have no idea if, when you download this and run it it may open a terminal and you can visually see the commands or not, but I want to physically verify the commands run on my phone first, not during.
2) This teaches people that root is simple as a click of the button. You gain absolutely no command line skills and if you think you can escape the android root underworld without knowing and loving Android Debugging Bridge you'll be sorely mistaken.

Realistically if the app did something malicious someone would have called the dev out by now. BUT without seeing the actual commands, i cannot tell you to use this or not use this. My commands are laid out and simple and you can see exactly what I'm telling you to do.

As the saying goes, there's more than 1 way to skin a cat.

EDIT- It seems this app has just made the front page of Androidcentral.com this does not change my opinion but is a good place to read others opinion.
