The steps (if followed correctly) will work like a charm. If they don't you either need to do it again (it can take more than one time) or you're doing something wrong.

Watch the video I made. Sometimes it's better to see it then to read it.

Thanks so much, followed the steps and worked great. After using the minfreemanager, the phone got noticeably faster. great work in holding our hands.
btw, which is the best custom rom to try for optimus T now?

I downloaded minfreemanager to change things and it only shows me the numbers ..there is no other "page" to go to be able to change the numbers...something I did?? also, I just got the phone a day ago so am still getting the hang of things with an android...lol

you don't have to change the values manually. In minfreemanager, when you hit the menu key, you will see various options, choose presets and then aggressive.

maybe I do not have Root Access yet...I went thru the whole setup without a problem,,,not exactly sure how to verify it...

...when I go into Minfreemanager, I see one screen, the one with the numbers, 6 8 16 20 22 24....I cant scroll down, sideways..just that one screen,,,I can touch the line with each number and change it manually but as soon as I get out of minfreemanager, and go back, they reset,,,I dont see the screens I see in examples on the net where u have the words Presets, Default, Mild, Aggressive, etc....nor is there anything at the bottom that shows Apply, Presets, Apply at Boot, etc...

anyone??

Hit the "hard" menu key on your phone (the bottom left one), when you are on the screen with the numbers. Then you will get a pop up menu, and you will see the presets option.

yes, this definitely has to be changed,,Can the FIRST POST be updated???? or amended somehow to show there can be either a Tools folder or a Platform-Tools folder???

BTW, I had BOTH folders showing and following the instructions on the first post, used the Tools folder..spent the whole day and night trying to get it to work,,,when I went back to look in the Tools folder, I didnt see the file adb,,when I looked in the Platform-Tools folder, thats where I found it and once I changed to this, it worked fine,,,

oh, and of course, eager to get this going, I didnt read thru the whole thread to find that the one file had changed/was added...my fault...

Updating or amending the first post to add that Platform-Tools folder would have saved me probably 10 hrs of trying to figure it out...

I hit a big roadblock after

"./rageagainstthecage (let things sit a couple minutes (2), your phone will disconnect from the computer and you'll be removed from your ADB session)
adb shell This should return a "#" symbol instead of a "$" symbol. If it does you're good. If not go back and start from the beginning of step 4
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system"

this returns "error: device not found" i have tried redoing the steps repeatedly with the same result. I have waited anywhere from 2 minutes to 10 mintues before typing "adb shell". Apparently, others have the same problem:

http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-lg-optimus-t-adb-methrooting my optimus t --- help?! - Android Forums

of course my phone could be rooted by now because I am able to access all folders in the system using astro that I believe I wasn't able to before. However, there are still problems with apps like Droidwall which say I am not rooted or require me to give the app su privelages which I have no idea how to. The whole point of me rooting my phone was to be able to use Droidwall. I also d/l SuperUser but was unable to use it.

try closing the command prompt and reopen it and try again.

if you downloaded the super user app by chainsdd and can't grant permission then you aren't rooted.

I have an ubuntu Maverick computer. Is the process the same, except that we need to use the linux version of the SDK?

You shouldn't need to start the SDK Manager to get a command prompt. If you're on windows open the start menu and in the search box type command prompt.

my phone restarts everytime i try and z4root and the sticky thread i get half way through and the adb shell gives error: device not connected

i think the resent update they pushed locked it out cause it don't work till u restart the phone and even then you have to start over but every time u start the rageagiansthecage it locks out the adb

./rageagainstthecage

adb shell

error: device not found

I have my drivers and the computer does recognize my phone even though it says device not found. Someone please help! USB debugging is enabled and I am in charge mode.

So I needed a new phone, had a g1 with froyo running on it. Now I have the optimus t and have been trying to root it. Here's what happens when I get to the second adb shell. Any advice?

Oh, and if i try to start this process from the beginning I get the no device found error. To restart I have to factory reset my phone, which isn't a big deal seeing as it's new and all my contacts are synced to my gmail.

Dude, I'm having the same exact problem. You dont have to factory reset though, just turn it off and back and you'll be able to run the same process but still get the same result!!!!!! This really sucks!
