How to root on 2.2.1 (the answer!)

Okay, after 2 days off trying to root after going to 2.2.1 I have finally figured out a solution that works. If you are one of the people like me and z4root just isn't working, this should do the trick.

First, make sure bootstrap is installed on your phone.

Second head over to: TBH Patches: 2.3.340-System, Baseband, 2.3.340-Kernel, Bootloader and download: 2.3.340 System Updater. Put this on the root of your sd card and then reboot your phone into boostrap recovery.

Third select install zip from sd card and then let it do its job. Once done, reboot your phone and install z4root and everything should be cake from there!

I simply installed the ota and downloaded z4root, it took a few tries, I did a factory reset and it worked right after that.

Yup, all you need is the system file.

stupid question for me to ask . how do you get z4 root on your phone if its not in the market. i understand i have to download it from website. but after i DL if to computer , how do i get it to run on my phone? i tried putting it on sd card , but im having trouble thinking of my next step? i feel pretty dumb right about now , im sure its right under my nose .

I just selected the apk through my file manager and it ran the intallation from there. I had no issues. Make sure you have your phone set to install no market apps.

Edit BTW: I had no issues with z4root. Ran it last night and worked first try.

I downloaded it from xda on my computer then used the android central side loader program to install it on my x. Took a little work but everything went smooth

z4root worked perfectly for me. I don't see what the problem is...we all have the same update.
