[How-To] Root the LG Optimus V

look for vm670 on lg site, not optimus v.
this guide is outdated and won't work on newer optimus v's anyway.
look to the rooting sticky at the top of this subforum by whyzor for current instructions.

Has anyone tried this to root the Optimus V?

Z4Mod

[APP] z4root - xda-developers

I put it on my Cruz tablet and it worked easily. Neither this tablet or the Optimus V are listed as supported however this post is over a year old.

I was not afraid to try it on the cheap ( low as $50 ) tablet as it is not important to me as a phone.

Anyone ?

now that ive done this can i install more apps than 10 or 15 or install them to my sd card? worked great thanks for putting this together has some probs with drivers but overall easy as pie :D

Z4 Root doesn't work.
If you have a 2.2.1 OS you can use SuperOneClick v1.63. Use the Shell Root option, then push su and Busybox with a command prompt.
Or the Gingerbreak.apk, which is all you can use if you have the 2.2.2. OS.

I tried rooting my LG Optimus V but when I clicked on the Shell Root button in Super One Click I could not get a temporary ADB Root. Any suggestions?

Hello all;
I'm new to the forums just regestered literally 5 minutes ago. I have an optimusV from virgin and am attempting my first root. I build computers for people and work with a lot of software so I'm pretty capable in the trouble shooting side of things. I run linux (haven't messed with it to much) I also run win7 64 and XP home 32. Just wondering what O/S to use to make things work the smoothest.
Thanks

I did look for VM670 but it returned no results.

I found mine but I could not use the link the tutorial gave me because IT WAS FROM THE UK!!!!!. Once I looked at the US LG sight it found it right away. I installed the LG usb software but it keeps telling me the phone is not connected to usb (when it is) So I cannot update the USB drivers for the optimusV.
This under WindowsXP home. I have a Dr. Appt. rite now when I get home I'll boot in Win7 64 and re-download everything and try again to see if it works. So far everything is working under XP but USB connect to the phone which I have seen others are having the same issue...might be a good idea to update the sticky with a warning for XP users

Well this didn't get updated cuz its just an old thread. Stickies are at the top of the forum;) welcome!! I hope you enjoy this little beast of a phone.

this isnt working i have installed everything and i get to adb shell and it tells me 'adb' is not recognized as
an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. so what do i do now the last thing it says on superone click is checking if rooted... checkifshellrooted 0.18s true any ideas folks?

For some reason i cant get this to work. Every time i open the command box and type the second line adb shell i get a message that says adb is not recognized not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Any ideas ?? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look at the stickies at the top of this sub-forum. In there is a link to gingerbreak. Use that.

in 'cmd', after the 'adb shell' command, it returns with "error: closed." I have restarted everything, even tried using the 'adb killserver' and 'adb startserver' commands. I cannot progress past the 'adb shell' command line...

I got that message at first too, but the latest download of the Android SDK does not automatically install the Platform tools. Run the "SDK Manager" and install the platform tools there install ADB.

I can't get through step 3. I keep getting the following system messages from my dell latitude e6510 running Vista 32 SP2:

The following device does not have drivers installed:

Android Composite ADB Interface
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B30&SUBSYS_040B1028&REV_05

Would you like me to forcefully install an Android ADB Interface
Driver for this device?

-------------------

To which I answer yes and wait a long time. Then I get this:

The following device does not have drivers installed:

PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B32&SUBSYS_040B1028&REV_05

Would you like me to forcefully install an Android ADB Interface Driver for this device?

-----------------

Again I answer yes and wait a long time. They eventually appear to finish, but then I fail to get the temp root message, and if I try to connect with adb shell command anyway, I get the error: closed message.

Does anyone know where I should go from here? I'm thinking about trying Gingerbreak.

Update: My antivirus software wants to clean every download of Gingerbreak that I can find. Since I am fairly new to this platform, I'm not sure what sites I can trust or if I want to disable my anti virus software and proceed anyway.

This has been a terribly difficult and time consuming process. I'm wondering if it's really worth the trouble. I could have watched 3 or 4 episodes of star trek by now and had much more joy.
