[How-To] Root the LG Optimus V

I can't get through step 3. I keep getting the following system messages from my dell latitude e6510 running Vista 32 SP2:

The following device does not have drivers installed:

Android Composite ADB Interface
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B30&SUBSYS_040B1028&REV_05

Would you like me to forcefully install an Android ADB Interface
Driver for this device?

-------------------

To which I answer yes and wait a long time. Then I get this:

The following device does not have drivers installed:

PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B32&SUBSYS_040B1028&REV_05

Would you like me to forcefully install an Android ADB Interface Driver for this device?

-----------------

Again I answer yes and wait a long time. They eventually appear to finish, but then I fail to get the temp root message, and if I try to connect with adb shell command anyway, I get the error: closed message.

Does anyone know where I should go from here? I'm thinking about trying Gingerbreak.

Update: My antivirus software wants to clean every download of Gingerbreak that I can find. Since I am fairly new to this platform, I'm not sure what sites I can trust or if I want to disable my anti virus software and proceed anyway.

This has been a terribly difficult and time consuming process. I'm wondering if it's really worth the trouble. I could have watched 3 or 4 episodes of star trek by now and had much more joy.

It is safe: Gingerbreak is exploit that is how it roots your phone, so an anti-virus well think it is a virus.

i have a challenge. my FW is v2.2.2 and the above doesn't seem to work past step #7 in superoneclick v2.3.3 using zergrush (psnuter doesnt get past step 1) as in it seems to lock just before the temp shell is started.

Worked for me. Phone is Android v 2.2.1.

SuperOneClick was a bit tricky to get a hold of. XDA forum version was not the latest, the developer's site was down, but google's cached version of the developer's site led to a file sharing site with the official version from the developer. Scroll down a little bit past the latest links to complaint about unreliability of links and the alternate source provided.

Sorry if this is repeat info, didn't read more than the first couple pages of the thread.

I have the optimus s but I'm going to be trying to attempt to start rooting the optimus v for some friends im just curious how do you flash a custom ROM without having a custom recovery menu??

Hey folks, I am trying to do this on a RHEL machine. Got SuperOneClick running, but nothing happens when I click "Shell Root", nothing happens. Anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks.

Actually, I got it to go through "Killing ADB Server", "Starting ADB Server", "Waiting for device", and then "Checking if rooted..." with a response of "False".

Then nothing. Any thoughts?

Ok, I switched to Windows and am having better luck... attached a screenshot.

Seems to be stuck at "Rooting device... - Step #5"

Any thoughts?

Conrail, I looked at the link you provided but that actually seems more difficult. Thanks though.

I just want to point out that this thread is 15 months old, and there are newer and easier rooting methods available -- as Jerry and Conrail already mentioned. GingerBreak is ridiculously easy (doesn't even require ADB) and still works on most phones. GorditaRoot is also easy if you have ADB, and works even on new ZV9 phones.

Can someone please help me with rooting the Lg Optimus V. I have followed every instruction step by step. I am at the point where my phone is connected to my laptop with a usb cable. I click Super One Click and changed the top right exploit to psneuter. When I click on Shell Root it will only make it to Step #1 and than say Installing Busy Box and will proceed no further. I figured out that if I unhook my phone from the USB and turn it off and back on than reattach it to the usb cable it will make it to Rooting Device Step #5 and than will say waiting on device. If I click on the shell root button again it will once again only make it to Step #1. Thanks for your time and help!

@Josh2903 Make sure your phone is in USB debugging mode by selecting settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging,,, Then continue to run through the steps
