How to root your Samsung Galaxy S5

I'm In UK, how do I know which version of S5 I have to root? Rooted my S4 no problem.

there are some threads on XDA and other places of people having app failure issues after tripping knox. I won't try to quote anything, as my memory sucks, but a google search should come up with them. there have been others that have confirmed some/most of the reported issues as occurring after root. if you don't intend on using the stock rom, I don't think you'll be affected unless you use a stock based rom as it is from the stock samsung apps (I would guess that even downloading the apps from the samsung store after rooting and putting a new rom on would still have the problems). I'll just say it was minor stuff, but enough that I am waiting (this coming from a guy that won't buy a phone unless root is already available).

Here is a link to a thread about CF-Auto-Root. If you go to the website, it lists the versions of the phone that are supported. Note that rooting the phone will cause the knox warranty void status to trip permanently (unless someone finds a fix). When the knox warranty void status is tripped, the knox software will no longer work.

If I havea S5 for personal use and not business, isn't a dead KNOX what I want ?

Apparently some Samsung repair centers are refusing to service phones with the knox flag tripped, so I would say no. Also, there are two versions of knox, personal and enterprise. You can use knox to secure personal data, if you chose to do so. If the knox flag is tripped, you would not be able to use it. Also, if the knox flat is tripped, my understanding is that OTA upgrades will not work. The best of both worlds would be to find a way to root the phone to debloat it, while not tripping knox. Over at xda, it sounds like someone is getting close, so close that QUALCOMM demanded the thread be taken down.

has anyone tried the uscc s5 root? sorry I'm a newbie and I'm getting the s5 in a month. I want to make sure I can get around the tether block without breaking my phone. I rooted the s3 with no issues but I don't remember where I got the directions and like I said, I don't want to mess it up.

No, what I'm asking is, dose the file that mobilecrackers provided above for the us cellular phone works or not. And I have no idea what Knox is. Like I said, I'm a newbie so give a guy a break. I'm actually looking for some pretty specific insturctions on how to root and remove the tether block on a USC S5. Maybe remove some of the junk apps too but anyways, I'm not very tech inclined and need help. I'll look into XDA but I'll be double checking things before I attempt to root the S5.

How to Root HTC One M8!

For those of you who want to root your HTC One M8, the steps are nearly identical to the original HTC One M7 root method except different CWM/TWRP recovery file is used. I will be using Windows computer in this tutorial but I have provided the code you need for Mac and Linux, also you can refer to HTC One M7 Mac video and HTC One M7 Linux video.

If you want to root the latest HTC One M8, here’s how to do it. Before we begin, make sure to MAKE A BACKUP of EVERYTHING on your phone. We will first unlock the bootloader, which will ERASE EVERYTHING on your HTC One M8, you’ve been warned!

This forum is for the Samsung Galaxy S5, not the HTC One M8 ;)

Uninformed galaxy 5 user , I basically use my phone for that and want to get more out my $$. Why do I want to root my phone

Rooting is like having administrator rights in Windows, it gives you access to being able to do things like wifi hotspot, running root only apps to take control of your phone, get rid of bloatware and many more things. If you're the type of person that likes to tinker with his/her phone than go for it (Just make sure you read everything carefully first. Be aware you will void your warranty because it will trip the knox flag.

Has anyone attempted to buy the T-Mobile version of the phone (-900T), as that can be rooted via the above method, and use it on AT&T network? Would there be any negative affect of doing this (aside from the T-Mobile logo on the back)
If that is not possible, is there any other rootable version of the phone (perhaps the -900M) that can be used on all bands of the AT&T network?

Got that brand new shiny Galaxy S5 yet? Want to root it? Of course you do. :)

Here's a quick run down of the models that have been rooted so far. Don't give up on the others just yet, the phone's new and people need time to learn how to break it open like a kinder egg. We'll have plenty of discussion about what to do after you've rooted as well. That's sorta what goes on in the Rooting, ROMS and Hacks forums.

Current as of 04/11/2014:

We'll add more devices to the list once they're broken open!
The link is another forum.Very helpful, thank you!
