[How to] Rooting HTC EVO Froyo 2.2 (Windows)

Anyone in here from Chicago? I am so ready to root but I'm a super noob and feel overwhelmed. I would gladly buy someone lunch if they can help me out.

Is there a way to search for members by city?

:o

k ran unrevoked3 now I just need to unlock the nand?

It's not completely necessary...but to flash certain roms you will need it unlocked. I suggest doing Simple Root instead of unrevoked3, because SR gives you this. From this point you can either just do Simple Root or you use Unrevoked Forever...which just FYI there is no current way to undo, so you may be unrevoked FOREVER! If you don't have a problem with this and don't care that you may have to return it to the store one day, and may not get it under warranty or worse yet they send you a $500 bill! This is hypothetical, but still can't undo the Forever method yet.

LOL! I have no idea what you guys are talking about... but yeah... that will do. :)

You never saw the movie Babe?

The Pig

When the Pig did the whole herding of the sheep the Farmer was proud and said "That will do pig..."

You will tend to see me Reference a lot of movies...

There is a way to undo unrevoked forever, search around XDA, its there. I still have issues using it though.

Nah The Farmer Said it... :p

oh, no i got it and i even read it in his voice. i was just trying to pile my joke on top of yours. i actually use it all the time. also, the shrek version of it as well.

but like they said -- back on track.

off track:
we need some little singing androids like the mice from the movie.

got a so n00b question here. After i downgrade to 2.1, which one i should pick for root, simple root or UNREVOKED-forever? I mean, after seeing a few thread, i am not quite for UnREVOked, what did you guy use there?

personally i used simple root. But please read through the original method i also linked, just so you have an understanding of whats going on behind the scenes.

Thanks a lot. That's what i thought too. Thanks for your advice also, as a matter of fact, i even downloaded the video for the original root somewhere, before simple root came out. Nv thought had to wait for that long for froyo root. I should've rooted a long time ago, just want to see how HTC&Sprint work for froyo officially.

Anyways, i will go through steps you post again, make sure i didnt miss any.

Appreciate it, man

i tried to follow but couldn't. i need help. i dont understand some of the terms like shell, and i got lost after step 5

I know it sounds kinda stupid, but, before anything started, should I "format/reset" my phone (just remember that's one step for root 2.1 back then) and format my sdcard?

in a simple way, shell just like command window for windows, you can type and execute those command, like push, chmod

You are right...the unrevoked team released an actually S-On tool. And yes I totally agree with the issue about using it. It's caused more problems than it's worth. Plus people missed what it actually going on, so when something happens they have no idea where to start!

For anyone looking for it the link is in the FAQ at the bottom.

Always wipe before flashing a new rom...no real need to format your card, just wipe in recovery.

i still get an main version is older. update failed error. help!!!!

Start over from the beginning...it seems to help. It's not going to hurt. This just means the exploit didn't work for whatever reason and you can't revert back. Starting over at step one should get you back on track.

You may need to start over from the beginning, i'm thinking you didn't flash something correctly.

Someone else had your issue also, and they resolved it, search the thread next time.

Also all of the terms you are unfamiliar with can be found on google, or in the adb basics thread that you can find if you search.

Cheers.

Tattrpuff, Thanks for helping out bro , lots of questions, just like tag-teaming in the RUU thread =)
