[How to] Rooting HTC EVO Froyo 2.2 (Windows)

nope, go ahead and delete all the files you pushed. They aren't needed any more, and next time you run the simple root or unrevoked, it will put them back again

Just when I thought I was moving right along...

Followed everything and rolled back to 2.1 no problems.
Used Simple Root 3 step. After step 1 I get
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!

And thats where I'm stuck. Any ideas how to get past that first step in simple root?

Thanks for any help.

sounds like an hboot issue. Make sure the simple root your using is a post OTA simple root, such as the one i have linked. If not try again.

Also you could try running the appropriate RUU to ensure that you truly are on the stock 2.1 w/ OTA

Thanks for the info.

I'm using the link from the OP.
On the Simple Root site:

download: 1 Click Simple Root OTA Edition (178.68MB)
added: 02/08/2010
clicks: 10720
description: 1 Click Simple Root OTA Edition

Is that the correct version?

should be right, sounds like something didnt get flashed correctly in the downgrading process.

try running the RUU and see where that gets you.

I agree, sounds like something (you or process) went wrong and your still on 2.2 hence the error message. I say this because, this is the exact same error you'd get if you try to run simpleroot on 2.2

Is there anywhere that tells me why my recovery-windows.bat isn't pulling up my recovery menu?? I clicked on "run as administrator" but I still get nothing. Please help! Feel like my phone is being held hostage!!

Your trying to get into clockwork or amonra? Do it the old fashioned way, or through rom manager

So I think that you were correct and something didn't flash right. Software version says 2.1update-1 but PRi seems to be the most current 1.40_003.

The downgrade should have reverted the PRI also right?

Also, I tried searching xda for the 2.1 RUU with no luck. All I could find was the 2.2.

Can anyone tell me why on step 12 I get : cd/local/tmp: not found

Help is the second time i've done it and both times it comes up with this error.

the first time I tried using the instructions without unrevoked, and the second time I used it (just like the video).

i dont know, but...

1. thats not step 12 on the instructions above. If its step 12 some where else, point me to that tread, or ask your question there.

2. if your referring to step 7. it should be :
Code:
cd /data/local/tmp

assuming you've followed all of the other steps correctly.

yes, I incorrectly said step 12 as it should be 7

Still in adb shell mode ($), i type in: cd/data/local/tmp
but get a not found error

and as I stated I have tried twice using unrevoked and without it..

I'm not sure if starting over from the beginning of the commands is safe either, but that is what I've been doing. Shoud I try erasing my android folders from C: and then starting over?
