How to stop popup ads on Samsung s8 edge

I'm not having the issues most of you are having. I was using Chrome and I kept getting pop ups (while using Chrome). I had seen some posts saying how bad Chrome was with pop ups. I downloaded FireFox and hope it helps.

Any new info on these pop up issues?

Use Chrome but with JavaScript off.
Samsung Internet supports up to 5 adblock extensions.
Clear all web data, history, cache.

Google got some pushback over support for adblocking from.... advertisers.

If you're using Chrome, make sure you go into the settings and check the box to Not allow pop-ups, cookies etc.

My mother-in-law just recently upgraded to a Samsung S8 Edge. She keeps getting popup ads randomly when unlocking the phone. They cover anything on the screen, even recent apps. You can also close the ad with a little x at the top right. Is there any way to get rid of these?

I've also had this problem and I figured out how to turn off this "Pop-up problem"
Steps to Prevent this problem from happening again.
First go to Setting - Display - Scroll down to Keep Screen Turned Off - and turn it off.

I had the same problem with my S8. An advert was displayed every time I unlocked the phone. Turned out to be the "Multi Calculator" app. Uninstalled Multi Calculator and problem solved.

I was having this issue on my new 8+. Friends tried to help and I was still being driven crazy with unwanted pop up ads. I finally went in to my settings to manage apps and found the app called Samsung Push Service. I clicked on Force stop and my problem has been solved! Hope this helps others!! Merry Christmas!!

I copied a screen shot of one of the pop pop-ups. The others look like little ornaments dropping from the top of the screen. It's driving me nuts!

I was having the same problem for 2 weeks. I finally lucked into a fix. I went to Google Play, clicked on the 3 bars in the upper left hand corner, scrolled down to Settings, selected Notifications and found the Deals and Promotions box checked. I'm not sure how it got checked or why I just started getting these ads after owning the phone for 4 months but the ads have stopped. I did this Monday, 1/1/18, and have not had an ad pop-up since... day 5! Fingers crossed this fix continues to work.

36 apps that posed as tools to keep users safe from attacks were actually installing malware on their devices.

Malicious apps posing under names including Security Defender, Security Keeper, Smart Security, and Advanced Boost

Phoney Android security apps in Google Play Store found distributing malware, tracking users | ZDNet

7.5 million Android users could have fallen victim to malware that posed as a series of flashlight and other utility apps downloaded from the official Google Play Store.

Dubbed LightsOut by the researchers at Check Point who discovered the malicious apps, the adware was hidden in 22 apps. Malicious applications distributing LightsOut included Realtime Cleaner, Call Recorder Pro, Smart Flashlight, Cool Flashlight, Flashlight Pro, Network Guard, and more.

Applications carrying LightsOut also hid themselves from the user in an effort to ensure they couldn't be easily uninstalled and thus continue to generate revenue for the attackers.

I've been happily using DNS66 system wide non root ad blocker. no more pop-ups in Facebook

Mine happen in the chrome browser. Never had this happen on my s7 but since I or s8 it happens all the time.

Thanks Linda, early days, but this seems to work. They have been driving me mad, so fingers crossed.

I have discovered these ads come from Google as part of the operating system and cannot be turned off. Go to settings Google and ads. Your ad id can be reset but not disabled. How is this legal?

Have you tried the settings pictured?

i get these all the time in Chrome. Very frustrating. Did you figure out a way to stop them?
Yes....stop using Chrome. I don't mean to sound so flippant but chrome is very often chosen by perpetrators because of its popularity. Try samsung browser beta. It has great extensions to help you limit these sorts of "attacks" .

I use Chrome along with a billion others who do not have this issue.
Since coming to this forum, almost every problem raised is a user setting issue, and rarely software, and almost never hardware.
I would bet that it is an app that you have on the phone. I've been spammed myself with apps that lie.
Boot into safe mode. If you're problem is gone, it's an app issue so start disabling the most recent apps until you find the offender.
