how to stop the update

My daughter has a 16GB S4. It's pretty much done as her memory is just about full. I got her a larger sd card but even though we put all her pics and music on the card it really didn't free up much. So now it's trying to do an update but telling her there isn't enough memory. She doesn't have an upgrade until late January. Is there a way to permanently put off this update so it won't keep bugging her trying to install?? Thanks for any answers....bad timing as I'm moving her off to college today ugh
