To take a screen shot: hold power button, then tap Screenshot.

This only works on certain phones, the OP does not say which phone or device they are working with so we can't know that this is the answer.

Mind it didn't work on my old Galaxy SIII mini, it depends on the phone maker because my Android tablet is older on Android version and I can screenshot on it. Right now I use a Cubot Rainbow (Android 6.0, there is a System Update but I refuse to update it) and I can hold power and it shows Power off, Reboot, Screenshot, Volume and Aeroplane mode.
