How to turn off website preview in SMS?

I work for a library and we send text notifications to our customers. Lately, most newer android phones have started showing a preview of the website mentioned in the message. It's simple to turn it off with newer versions, but many of our customers have older phones. Specifically on the S4 & S5 it shows up as a MMS message with the click to download button. Is there a way I'm missing to have the older phones not try and preview the URL in the message?

No, a URL is interpreted as an MMS. It's inherent in the protocol. (But they should be able to install Android Messages (which is the beginning of RCS, which they'll probably want anyway).
