Let's all hope that Google made a mistake in the specs then... and it's capable of 42 even if we buy it in the Play Store...
Otherwise, it's a tough decision.... spending more just to get 42...
Update: There is a Danish store selling the Nexus 4 with 42 speeds as well:

Im not well versed on network things. My Gnex on t mobile gets about 8 to 12mb now. Will the Nex4 give me faster speed or will i top at 8 like before.. I know its capable of 42 but will that also make my speed faster. Or is that purely based on location ?

One question everyone...I have never seen anything higher than HSPA+15 on my GNex...either in NYC or Long Island.
AND...that is very rarely....
Has anyone ever seen HSPA+21?
FYI: My Account is setup for LTE and I am using the "pta" AP.

It'll be based on location but it should provide faster data.
Are you on att? T mobile doesn't have lte. The highest I've seen on t mobile is 20 down on my gs3.

Too much conflicting information. I don't think Google would make two variants of the Nexus, especially not for a smaller carrier like T-Mobile. But there's most certainly a spec difference between the T-Mobile product page and the Google Play product page... I haven't seen any rock solid sources produce a good answer: Is the Google Play version of the Nexus capped at HSPA 21+?
I'm happily trading in my LTE Galaxy Nexus despite the downgrade in speed. The battery won't last half a working day for me, the bluetooth quality went to hell after a small update about six months ago, and the 4G/3G handoff is awful.

And I myself haven't noticed any difference between 21 and 42. I used a Samsung GSII before (42) and the speed were the same.

It's not just about 42 vs 21 mbps, which would be in ideal conditions probably no more than 1/3rd cell radius distance from the tower, but about 0.5 mbps vs 1.0 mbps at cell edge, which does make a considerable difference.
The carriers like to quote optimal conditions, but in terms of capable performance per square meter of covered area, its not as important as performance on cell edge is.
We should keep in mind that the speed of things on your phone is also a function of processor speeds. The 4 is a much more powerful phone and it would seem faster than the Galaxy Nexus even if it only only could do 21. It will be able to render pages and process data related items faster since it is a quad core phone.
My concern is the insurance for a phone bought not from a carrier. I'd prefer to not buy through T-Mo, even though I am on T-Mobile. I'd prefer to buy straight from Google.

Everyone has independently confirmed it is HSPA+ 42mbps. There's seriously no debating at this point. The one typo on the Play Store product page is the only thing saying 21mbps.
Even Google's own PR spec sheet says 42: https://sites.google.com/site/androidpresssite/home/tech-specs . Along with T-Mobile's PR, Googles responses to journalists, etc..
well i believe there is no T-mobile branding. but google play says 21 and release doc says 48.
people get confused over it. we never know could be like the verizon GNexus 32 Gb
