HTC 10 doesn't show security patch date —*does that bother you?

I think that it should be displayed. Especially if something gets patched in a certain security release, and you want to make sure that you at least have that release.

Doesn't bother me one bit. I guess I'm more curious than anything about why they didn't specifically call it out. Honestly only phone nerds like those of us on this forum are even aware of security patches:-) But again....what's the rationale for not calling it out? If anything you would think they would want to call it out as it makes them look better, i.e. staying up to date.

If you are level-headed and have any sensitive data on your phone then it should definitely bother you.

What difference will it make? Will seeing the date give me any more control over a potential situation? If one is following security issues then wouldn't that person notice if their phone has had a recent update?
I'm asking honest questions here, not making an argument. I'm not seeing how knowing the date will give me any control over the situation so some clarity would be helpful.

Its not a date. Its a version. Just because an "update" happened on xxx date doesn't mean you have any idea what dropped. The version is a means of relaying to the end user what is sittingon their phone. By removing that transparency, whether they intend to or not, HTC creates doubt in the end users mind as to what has been fixed/repaired or sitting on the phone.

Lets say this. If the newest hack came out and it was rendered useless by patch 1.2.3.44; wouldnt you want to kown if you have that patch or not?

Kinda like Windows10; You removed KB ...35 to keep Microsoft from pushing it to you. While most might be obvlivious to this, how quick do you think a news rag would spread "HTC does not protect their end users..." how quickly would that destroy any credibility?

Credibility? I don't know about that. Beyond forum chatter (which has little affect on retail) I don't see anyone caring. In fact, what percentage of consumers even pay attention to patches and such?

Regarding my questions about what help it is or what it allows us to do, I'm guessing none? If it's just awareness, my vote would be that I don't care. I've never had an issue and no one I've met has ever mentioned that they have either. I've found HTC to be excellent regarding updates so I generally trust them.

While I understand your viewpoint; it directly counters mine. I DO care about it. And while I am in the low percentage; I am certain that I am not alone.

What help is what or what does what? A patch? If a security patch helps eliminate a way to skim data from your phone that could cause you grief in the future would you not want to make sure its applied to your phone? I am not sure why "you wouldn't care" and would have a blind trust? I love HTC but this is the first thing that make me go "whoa". Will it make me get rid of it? No. Will I put banking stuff or use Android pay with it? Not at this time. I like knowing what is on my electronics and what it does. I don't always know what I need to know but I try to catch up as fast as possible when I can.

I could care less really. I think most people that even know what the security patch is already know how to find it. I mean...my wife doesn't even take a software update without asking me first. She could care less about what security patch version she is on, or how to find out.

Why they purposefully decided to remove it is another question. I can't see why they would care either because, again, people that care know how to find it anyway. Just my thoughts.

The security patch information is still on the phone, it just isn't outward facing.

The HTC 10 monthly security patch isn't missing —*it's just hidden http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-10-monthly-security-patch-isnt-missing-its-just-hidden

Well see now you're diving into a whole other topic. Phil was asking us (the forum chatter) how we feel about it -- not the random masses. We're the nerds / geeks who (usually) DO care about stuff like this. What reason does HTC have to hide it unless it was due to something like my suggestion earlier? No other manufacturer decides to do this. Especially with Security being a big concern now a days.

Not all of us. There's some (perhaps most) of us who come every year or two when they decide to get a new phone. Then there's those who are arguing about one phone being better than another because it got 32hrs battery life instead of 30.
Security is indeed important, but it's not like seeing the patch # will change anything about my actual security. Now, if they developed a rep for not issuing patches, then I'd want to know.

Not all of us.

Well of course -- hence why I said mostly and why Phil is asking us ;). Just saying you're bringing in a whole other piece of the convo about the random peoples but this wasn't about them -- it was about us and our opinions not what the masses want :).

If you think that -- well .. to each their own.

Well, it's not a matter of whether I think it will or not. It literally hasn't for the last 7 or 8 years I've been using android and won't affect me in the future so I'm just stating how it does/doesn't affect me.

And, you're taking my statement about general consumers out of context. It was in regard to what someone said about credibility, not about Phil's question. Speaking of which, I think it's safe to say that he has two distinct opinions from each of us so I'm more than happy to just leave it at that. :)
I'm not trying to change anyone's mind here, just stating my perspective and asking some questions.

I really dont care.
Nor do I care about these monthly secruity patches If Im honest.
Not something I worry about.

The question asked by Phil was are you bothered by the date of the security patch not being displayed, not if the security patch was installed or important. The security patch is important, to be sure. The date it was done is just some fuzzy bit of confirmation for those who need it.

Ok, Phil you've stirred the pot now please educate us.
