HTC 10 going back, I'm going to iOS

I use a Mac too but prefer Android to iOS

Posted via the Android Central App

Me too... I have two macbooks and prefer Android to iOS. I prefer keeping my worlds apart and not having everything sync-ing up with everything automatically from the Borg mother ship (Apple) directive. It makes me uncomfortable being told how to manage my data and systems. Doesn't seem like the OP has a problem with these elements.

Like the OP, I (absolutely) would not be happy with an HTC device either, but I really don't think that is a valid reason to bail out on Android all together. Most of his complaints are handset, end user or app related... not OS related. There are just too many hardware and app options out there in Android-world.

The 4-5 of times I have had to gmail myself, I have never received duplicate messages from myself.

I have a 5s & have been using Swiftkey which I liked better than the stock iOS keyboard. Now I am also using Gboard on my 5s and really like it. Try it, it may be too your liking. I have been looking at the HTC 10 to thinking it may be what gets me back on Android. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I landed on this thread from Android Central home page. I use Samsung S7 Edge and do not plan to buy HTC 10, but I have to say, this thread should be moved to general android forum instead of HTC as new users may think there is really something wrong with the HTC device. The title is also very misleading.

That aside, everybody has the right to choose what they want or use both (like me and many others in this thread).

However, one thing I would like to add is that android is flexible enough for users to customize how they want and seek alternatives to many apps. That has both ups and downs, but I always stay with the former. I use both iPhone 6s and S7 edge - nothing wrong in both. I get all the features and in fact more in android. If you want to attend calls, text and basically respond to any notifications in your PC or Mac, you can use Samsung Sidesync with Samsung phones and it works great. I don't know about other OEMs. Let me know when you can actually attend calls, text from a PC with your iPhone. In fact, if you use Cortana, there is direct integration with android phones (not just HTC, every android phone) and your Windows PC.

The fact is that OP is tied to the Apple eco-system and I think its OK to choose Apple, but I believe this has nothing to do with HTC.

I respect everyone's opinion but I'll differ from the majority here and agree with you that the IOS keyboard as it is right now is great. I have tried all sorts of keyboards and the IOS keyboard, specially with 3d touch cursor control just does it for me. I am also enjoying the GBoard keyboard which I think is not even out for Android yet (correct me if I am wrong, I have not searched for it in the playstore). Now on my Galaxy S7 Edge the samsung keyboard is great as well. I switch between that and the google keyboard but the sammy one has cursor control which I have gotten used to and use daily. Apart from the keyboard, I tend to use the iPhone more because the apps are better, even google ones, and touch id works natively with almost all my apps including my finance ones. Some have mentioned that Sammy SideSync is the same as Continuity or Handoff and I have to say the Apple system is much more reliable. SideSync always was giving me the wifi signal is too weak switch to cable error message, disconnected both on pc and mac, and while I tinkered to try to get it stable, ended up just giving up on it. I love the fact that while I am drawing on my iPad pro, I can answer calls and text on it as well. Now I would love for that to work with the PC the same way but that's just Apple not wanting to make it available for that platform. I am not giving up on Android because there are things that I do with the S7 that I simply can't with the iPhone but that gap is surely narrowing.

If you need hours to configure a phone, well.......

I can learn a completely new app in minutes and have it configured a couple minutes after that. Other people aren't as smart as me I guess.

Have you ever tried to get the right fuel mixture with a carburetor? I was not talking phones here.

To each his own. Nothing wrong with iphones. Nothing wrong with android. I just think iphones are boring and I like to tinker with roms and have more control over my content and apps.

Exactly why I always have an Android I use part time. I'm right there with ya!

Using Pushbullet I control my phone from my home computer and office computer. It's awesome. It may be able to be done better natively with the OS by Google but it doesn't exactly suck presently.

Smartwatch works great for notifications. My phone stays in my pocket or on my desk most times.
"when I email myself I always get duplicate emails"....why do you do this? I'm just asking.

doesn't pushbullet have a monthly SMS cap unless you pay for the app? i think that was the reason i deleted the app...but i can't be sure.

I currently don't have a 10 yet. So I can't comment on the screen or sound atm. As far as integration goes I'm using Hangouts. I have my cell number but I give out my GV number most of the time. This way I can get my VM and texts in the same app. Along with the pc app running in the background. I can do all that from there to. Keyboards are definitely a personal preference. Swiftkey is my fav but there are many great ones also in the Play Store. If the OP like IOS that's fine and have a good time. I will say though with android there are options. Enjoy your bite of the apple.

"Screen. It really is not that great. Viewing angles remind me of phones of the past which means not great. The screen looks white when looking directly on but dims and turns pink when looking at an angle. I compared to my iPhone 6s and Note 3 and the HTC 10 has the worst viewing angles."

LOOOLLOLOL. My girlfriend has iphone 6s and I have HTC 10 and Iphone screen compared to HTC 10 screen looks like a midrange phone screen back from 2013!

You must be really out of your mind to write this crap. Screen on HTC 10 is definitely one of the best on the market and miles ahead of iphone's. I told my girlfriend that there are much better choises but she just likes iphone and never tried other phone.

I compared screen side by side and felt really sorry for people who pay so much money for iphone which is inferior in so many ways to android flagships especially this poor 720p screen.
I just cant beieve that you point screen as inferior to iphone. You must be totally Apple biased.

And fyi. speakers are not that much better on HTC but still they are. And not the speakers are selling point thi year. Its the built in dedicated DAC and amplifiers inside HTC 10 which make iphone sound really poor compared to 10 when you plug it to your headphones or home stereo.

The HTC is going back. I started with Android in '08 with the G1 and right about the time of the iPhone 4 left Android as my daily driver. I have always had an Android as a backup and love my old Note 3. Having said that I wanted to give the latest and greatest offering a try but was left unimpressed.

The HTC 10 is a great phone over all! Build quality is excellent and it feels great in the hand. Battery life is very good and standby is excellent! Finger print sensor is excellent. If Android is your choice, this is a winner. Why is it going back?

Gmail app. Google still can't make the Gmail app as good as it is on iPhone. Two things stand out. One is when I email myself I always get duplicate emails when on Android. This is on any Android using Gmail app. Two, there is no setting to use desktop signature on Android Gmail app yet iPhone Gmail app allows for it.

Android keyboards. They are just not as good as iPhones...period.

Notifications. Not as great. I leave my phone on my desk face up. If I get a notification with my iPhone I look over and see what it is and get a short description or part of the email lit up on the screen. HTC 10? A beep and a blinking light, not good (I checked the settings and it was set to notify while locked but never got that to happen). This requires a double tap to wake the screen and the information is still more limited.

Speaker. Its good but not great. There is such a small improvement over the 6S speaker its not worth bringing up as a strong point IMO. I turned on the same song on Spotify and went back and forth from phone to phone and aside from the HTC having slightly more clarity there really is nothing to get excited over. They both still sound like little cell phone speakers.

I use a Mac. Having the ability to answer phone calls, reply to text and syc notes directly with my Mac is valuable and can not be done with Android.

So I won't let the door hit me on the way out but I'll be back with one of the first to buy a Note 6 as I have always loved the Note line of phones. :-)

The keyboard on iOS is terrible. There is no dedicated number row. I don't know how anyone can stand typing on that thing.

Oh, and there certainly is a signature in the Gmail app just like there is on the desktop. And you're probably getting two notifications because of the old Gmail app and the Inbox app are both running. BTW, the Gmail app on the iPhone 6s Plus (when I had it back in February) only updated every 15 minutes to the minimum. There was no "push" option.

If you value having your iPhone sync with your Mac, why did you even bother purchasing an Android device?

I agree Android keyboards offer more options and choices but, when I want to rattle off a few emails iPhone keyboard simply gets it done with very little corrections needed. In 8 years I have not found an Android keyboard that works for me that way for some reason.

Up until about a year ago I would have agreed but I find both keyboards to be about the same now. I get very few words that are not properly corrected on Android anymore. Its actually been a pretty darn good improvement. Using androids own keyboard btw.

I have to agree with the OP on keyboards. The iOS keyboard has absolutely no lag. If you're a fast phone typer, that makes it feel superior. In addition, the auto correct on the iPhone (in its current iteration) is extremely good at predicting phrases over just words... so if you're flying along and get a couple of words wrong, it can auto correct that phrase as well. I haven't used an Android keyboard that's as good at that (or even does that in most cases). Like the OP, Android is my "first love", but I use iOS as my daily driver for work purposes. I've been a hardcore Android user since 2009 (the original Droid), owning every major flagship since then. I also have years of history synced up on Swiftkey and the Google Keyboard, and they're still not as intuitive at knowing what I want to type as the iOS keyboard. IMHO the iOS keyboard is superior in every way except the lack of swiping (which is a big deal when needing to one-hand), and I'm not coming from a biased or inexperienced perspective.

I recently bought a HTC 10 coming from Windows Phone (yeah yeah I know, but once upon a time it was a great OS) and had the opportunity to choose from any phone I wanted. I actually analyzed the market very well before choosing which ecosystem and phone model to switch to. My girlfriend (and many other friends) have iPhone so I could easily test it.

It all comes down to what every individual user wants and require from an OS but for me HTC 10 is the finest phone I ever used. I really don't know how the screen can be worse than iPhone if I am not looking at the wrong thing (side by side HTC 10 is a little better), and the audio quality for headphones is superior to any other phone I've used.

There will always be some things a user will want when switching OS. Me for example really liked some of the UI queues on Windows Phone and will miss those. I will miss that the phone screen turns on if I receive a notification and look at the phone in the next 20 seconds. Stuff like that. But at the same time there is so much great stuff that the others don't have.

iPhone just lacks control. Some people like this some don't. I can't stand the idea of not even being able to customize the UI a little. Every damn iPhone looks the same on the start screen! Yeah, you can move the icons, but it's still just a mess of icons with a wallpaper attached to the background. No option to make it personal. My problem with Android was that most customization lacked polish and often looked really really ugly. However, Android has come a long way and HTC Sense is all I want from stock Android but with some extra polish that makes the UI really beautiful.

I tried to move pictures from the iPhone to my PC. I know I am not supposed to do stuff that Apple don't want, but it took me about 3 hours to find an application that could find all pictures. iTunes has no good option, using USB-storage only half of all pictures was shown and most of the applications I found just used the USB-storage view to extract. Finally, I found an application with trail and extra junkware that could actually extract all. For me stuff like that is a big deal breaker. I just constantly feel that I have to like what Apple want me to like, otherwise the experience becomes flawed and irritating.

For a lot of people that is not even an issue and that's fine, but I think the line between Android and iOS in the end comes down to what kind of control you want. For me I find no benefit in the simplistic use of iPhone. Even lack of back button irritates me when I constantly find myself using confusing UI where cancel / back is hidden in touch gestures or icons.

So that's my point of view and I highly recommend the HTC 10 to anyone. It's just a premium device in every single way and detail!
