So for those of you who have used both M8 and G3, which do you prefer and why? And would you recommend the switch to the G3?

I have both, as of Friday at around 11 am so it's still pretty early. I do really like the larger screen without it feeling a lot bigger than the M8. The HTC 's speakers are awesome but damn do they take up a lot of room.

The display is nice. I say nice because, like some reviews, it's not something you're constantly aware of given the limitations of what you're viewing or what app you're using. There hasn't been a need to create for this high of a resolution. This will likely change but who knows when.

One thing I'm not loving about the G3 is the decidedly cheaper feel coming from a M8. This shouldn't be a surprise though.

I don't think the G3 feels substantially "cheaper" than the M8. Sure, it's plastic, but it still feels very premium to me (and I'm a stickler for that kind of stuff).

I don't think it feels cheaper, either. The aluminum on the One is definitely nice, but the LG doesn't feel at all rickety.

I've had both recently got rid of the M8 and this week received my G3. The G3 for me is the superior device. The screen is a moot point because as others said it's not really being used to its full potential just yet. I prefer stock android and even though the LG UI is not pure stock it is relatively close. The build in my mind is exceptional. It may not be metal but the fit and finish of the plastic is great. Only time will tell if it truly holds up and nobody knows that just yet. I don't usually play music from my phone at least the internal speaker. I am usually sending it somewhere via Bluetooth so the extra space the speakers take up on the M8 detracts from it in my opinion. The G3 is big...by no means small but feels much smaller than its screen size would make you think. The back buttons are perfect once you get use to them and really have nice functionality with the quick camera start by holding down the volume down button. There really is rarely a time I use the power button other than to shut down the device or start it up. With knock on and knock off coupled with knock code it's so easy to use the screen to get where you need to go quickly. Just my thoughts so far. P.S. I've got the white version and really love that over the black.

M8 should have better speakers and probably battery life, but the G3 has a powerful camera and some interesting customizations.

How is the ui speed and smoothness? Out the new phones this year, I thought the m8 had the fastest and most smoothest UI, although I think the s5 might have an up and down scrolling speed that's smoother than the m8.

In my case the battery life is far superior to that of my HTC One M8. This varies device to device I think as I have seen some claims on here that my M8 would never be able to attain. The LG G3 with my same usage pattern and probably heavier use due to it being brand new has been excellent. Easily lasting the day for me and still having 25% left when I go to bed. The HTC on the other hand I would have to charge when returning home from work before going out and doing anything the rest of the evening. I live in a marginal service area so that may have a greater affect on my results as well but for me the G3 is definitely the better of the two.

I don't mind that the G3 is plastic. Phone looks sharp and isn't slippery. You were always worried about the M8 sliding off your lap, out of your hands, etc. So far that's the biggest difference. The rest is really preference.

What about ui performance. The m8 (mine at least) performs without a hiccup.

I have both and prefer the G3 but nothing wrong with M8 but battery life better and prefer screen size and camera on the G3.

I used the m8 for about a week but I returned it for the g3. The m8 was an awesome phone with great build, great battery life, great speakers..smoothest android device I've ever used. With that being said, coming from a note 3, I missed the larger screen. I just couldn't adjust to the screen and also the camera was not very good. I am very happy with my decision to get the g3. Absolutely love it! Haven't felt this way about a phone since I got my note 3. The screen is beautiful, no issues with battery life, and just a overall beast! I do experience very very very little lag every once in awhile when scrolling through apps but that is all. Can't go wrong with either one but I without a doubt love the g3 more!

I'll chime in. Those who have read the M8 threads have probably seen me in there unhappy with my M8. My top 2 issues where the size of the M8 and camera. Those are the main two reason why I went back to a G2. I'll explain more after this, but to answer your question, why did I go to a G3? How can I pass up $100+$30+tax on it? I have no idea if the G3 will be better than my current love, the G2, but I can hope; and for less than $150 out the door, I can always get my money back off Swappa if it's not. Read on if you want to know my two main issues with the M8.



Keep in mind, I did not just try an M8 for a day. I had the thing from launch day until last month. Last month I gave up and bought a used G2.

Issue #1: Size. Yes, the "BOOM" speakers in front are great and if you do a lot of watching movies without earbuds, then this is a must. However, the speakers add an inch to the height of the phone. This is something I never could get over and something that drove me nuts. The phone was just too tall for it's screen. I hate bezels and the HTC M7 and M8 are the King and Queen of bezels.

Issue #2: Camera. Look, the camera isn't bad. I've said it a hundred times, it's not bad, but it's not good either. I'd rank it around the middle of the pack as far as quality. Now, this is a flagship phone, so middle of the pack is not good enough. I compared lots of photos between the M8 and G2. The G2 won hands down. It wasn't even close. Of course, I didn't use all the features that came with the camera app, so if you're a camera features guru, you'll love the M8. For me, I just want to pull out the phone and take a picture, then put it back. The M8, while it did an OK job, I didn't think that OK was right for a top of the line phone.

Other M8 issues:

• Knocking doesn't shut off the screen. (Had to fix by installing a 3rd party app that had me touch an icon on my desktop to put it to sleep.)
• The simple 1-2 knocking hardly ever turned on the screen. I'd usually just use the swipe up instead. By leaving this enabled, the stupid thing would turn on in my pocket, or when I was just holding the phone.
• No Qi Charging. (G3 doesn't have it out of the box, and I've heard that there are problems with the European models that can do this, so...)
• Signal was not as good as I thought it should be. While I never dropped a call, I did have speed issues with the Internet. I never got the same speeds that my G2 gave me and it bounced in and out of 3G more than my G2.

So, there's my answer to your question. Ultimately, you have to make your own decision.
