HTC Evo V 4G and Evo Design 4G hands-on photos

The Tmobile plans have odd minutes. Exceed the data limits and watch out. Their throttle is harsh.

In terms of upgrading or not...
Google upped the max size for apps to 50 megs and they are growing by the day. Processing power and storage will become more and more of an issue as time goes on. At some point you will almost have to upgrade.

Yeah I know, But I was hoping to get some 4G to get just a bit of a speed boost. But Since I won't get that I think I might stay with my OV for a while.

It looks like I should have 4G. I mean if you look at where I live (Type this for zip 07006) You will see that is says I should have 4G. I'm just really bummed that I won't be getting 4G on sprint. I kind of like VM and there pricing. But if T-Mobile is faster then I will go with them. Just got to save up for a GNexus

Yeah it looks like you would have 4G of some sort available at all times. However that plan I posted was for 100 minutes. Im sure you have looked at the plans. The next plan is 50 for unlimited text and talk with 100mb of 4G then your dropped to 2g. For 60 it is 2gb and 70 for 5gb.

I think right now you would be better to save your money and wait to see if sprints coverage increases or not. Maybe straight talk will come up with some real solid terms to how they handle unlimited data. I wish Vm had better coverage for me I would have waited and bought the evo. I really wish I could sell the sgs4g for a decent amount and find a different phone. But I digress and dont wanna bore you guys. Whatever you do if you go with tmo dont buy the sgs4g save a week or two more and get teh Gnex.

Woah wait what? $70 for 5GBs of 4G? I thought it was $30 for Unlimited Texting 100 minutes and 5GBs of Data. And what's wrong with the SGS4G? My friend got it and he says it's ok.

Yeah the 30 dollar plan does have the 5gb of data. I was referring to minutes.

The sgs4g is a nice phone. But if you like having cm7 or ics or even something better than deoxed stock you will not want to get a sgs4g. The only community is on xda and they are pretty arrogant. The phone is about a year old and still doesnt have cm7, ics is kinda in a pre alpha stage. The devs are so dead set on building from the ground up and changing from BML kernels to MTD. Then there is the secrecy and non discussion on the forums.

In general the GNEX would be a better phone. I dont even think the sgs4g is offered right now.

Sounds like a bunch of assholes. But Yeah I want a GNexus but yeah. Should I get a EVO 3D and just use it for 3G and see if I get 4G or just go with T-Mobile?

I can't really say. I think I a gnex would be awesome but the htc phones look solid also.

I would go with your gut.

Well if you could only get one what would you get?

And yes I do tether quiet often... >__>

Ive seen people talking about tethering on tmo and not any complaints of getting in trouble. With the announcement VM is going to offer tethering for a extra 15 bucks it makes me wonder if they are going to be aggressive in enforcing the no tethering clause to get people to pay for the plan.

Right now if I was going to buy a new phone. I would probably get the GNEX. Just because of coverage. If you know anybody that has VM in your area and they are going to get the EVO I would wait until they get it and see if they actually get 4G service. If they do then that is the best option.

Eollie, I was actually thinking of going with the GNEX as well. which carrier are you going to go with? I was looking at getting the unlocked version.

Not sure if I read it right, but it looks like you can't do prepay with T-Mobile if you bring your own phone?

oh sweet. whew. choices choices. i've been pretty happy with Virgin Mobile. not sure if i'd want to make a switch.

Well if money isn't a issue and your not a cheapskate (like me) I would look at anything but prepaid right now.. This wimax roll out is going to be a game changer and some great offering will be had in contract phones if you can resist for few months or so after the wimax prepaid launch imo.. But a Razor MAXX with a $35 plan should not be expected..

I have a feeling I will end up with the Virgin Mobile Evo v for now.. Just for the extra ram and screen it has over it's little bro the Design 4G /w Boost Mobile.. If the guys at radio shack can show me 4G in the upper right hand part of the screen on a Evo V in my area it's sold.. I could do a lot better on a contract phone with speed and specs but it would cost 3 times more..

I suggest (If you speak the Queens English and don't have the patients of a saint) that you buy prepaided VM phones in a store that will Set the Evo V up for you and will handle customer service for you as you don't want to go into the Cali Indian hell that is Virgin Mobile's 1-800 customer service (Unless you understand it yourself :)) trust me!! Best Buy and Radio shack come to mind lol..

The Evo V with the $35 plan is light years ahead of the Optimus V I now have with VM for $25 no matter what rom I install on the OV.. I don't need tethering except in a emergency and I know how to get it for free :).. Might run both phones for a month just to be sure lol.. It's sad granddad died on the Evo V upgrade :( .. GL

T-Mobile isn't bad if it will fit you.
Be sure to check the minutes vs megs and read the fine print (like dropping to 2g).

If it still works, check coverage, ask your neighbors! While I can get great AT&T, Verizon, and pretty good Sprint inside or out, you can't get a T-Mobile data signal inside any house in my neighborhood unless you are right next to a window. On the other hand, a housing track a few miles away, T-mobile is the only one who has any phone signal at all, but you still pretty much need to go outside to get it, and you pretty much can forget data other than 2g there. As you get closer to the cities, they all work fine usually.

And echoing what Eollie said,
Look into dev support (and their attitudes) on anything you want, it varies A TON. Phones you think would have nothing or very little sometimes have loads (look at the OV, small community, lots of choices). Phones you expect a lot of support for, have nothing or has very little in the way of options(SGS4g).

@_Severability_ one thing to consider is some places like Radio Shack and local phone stores have signal boosters in the store. Its used to enhance the signal so they can show the features of the phone with super signal.

Yep.. Experienced that effect when I tried a Nexus S on contract for a few days /w Sprint (S duh) before I got the OV some time ago..
If I lived in that mall it was the phone to own!! Yet outside it was a complete fail everywhere I took it lol.. If that was the Wimax in my area and that's all it is today I won't get a Sprint network 4G phone from any vendor and if I do and it's the same as when I tried the Nexus S it's getting returned for a refund less $35 SOB!! I'll wait on a real prepaid 4G handset from others later if we ever get it here in Hoboganassville OH at all lol..

The OV is a beast here on 3G most of the time and just keeps ticking for $25 a month.. I don't really care about image or bandwidth (Except at startup on a VM handset thus the Harmonia 2.07 Vanilla ROM love it) .. Just the savings!! Love this Phone!! Forget about the Triumph it's a battery joke!!

I can't stand the non removable battery thing going on with the 1V .. The 1V a really cool looking Bic Disposable phone for Greenie's imo and not for me.. Doubt a enclosed battery is going to save the planet but whatever.. Every bit helps I guess?? It's a deal breaker for me..

Saw the new VM 800 MHz /w GB 2.3 and 5 meg cam Optimus Elite in Wally World today for $150 Looks decent enough.. Yet it is $35 per month minimum and is it going to get rooted??.. I may go there as the Triumph is a hardware lemon imo and that battery Yuck!!.. Saves me $150 over the 4G play phones I think we are getting here in my area from Boost and Virgin.. We will see as the OV I now have will probably out last them all.. I want a EVO V however.. Having patients and not suffer from phone envy,, time will be your friend in this endeavor imo.... GL

Btw I accidentally copied your topic, sorry about that! I just realized it.

So would I be able to flash a sprint evo 3d to virgin after this is released? I have a opportunity to buy one brand new for 100 bucks and would love to spoof my esn and flash this.

You can brick the phone, you may not be successful, if Virgin catches on you could lose your account, and you would not only not have 4g, but you could also be breaking laws where you live. It's not easy or fast, I know someone trying for 6 months and another who failed completely.

The only reason people have bothered doing this was because there wasn't any alternative. Now that we are getting new phones, and some more up to date ones, it's simply not worth doing in most cases.

Ignoring all the other factors, by the time you are done, yeah, you saved $200, but in the (stressfull!) hours you spent on doing it, you could have mowed lawns (or worked at McDonalds) and earned enough money to just buy the Evo V.
