HTC Incredible vs. Motorola Droid Xtreme

As stated in another similar thread I would be very concerned about Motorola's ability to remain in the smartphone race. Their financial performance over the last three years is dismal while Apple, HTC and Samsung are experiencing spectacular growth over the same period. There are significant numbers of financial analyst who are saying that the new Motorola Droids are a last ditch effort for viability and that regular cell phones or possibly media phones will be what they retreat to if they are to remain in the marketplace. This creates support and future update concerns. For those of you that replace phones every ten minutes this probably doesn't matter but for users looking for real business functionality this is a factor.

I just love "analysts" they sit and read facats and figures and try to predict the future. VZW sold a TON of moto droids (and it is STILL selling gangbusters), and the Droid 2 and Droid X (whatever the final name) will also sell like crazy. To Joe Consumer Motorola is a good brand name and most have never even heard of HTC (sad but true).

This it nothing like Palm. The Pre sold well for a couple months and then died off. The Pre didn't sell well at all. Verizon and AT&T got the slightly improved devices and basically had to give them away because the few people who wanted them got them on Spring last summer.

I know there has been a lot of talk about the BOGO deals but remember, Moto still gets their money for the phone, it's the carrier (Verizon) that takes the loss leader.

Motorola makes crap phones. Always have. Still think the Inc is better.

Gee then make sure to tell that to the couple million people with Moto Droids and who knows how many more who used or are using the Razor/Rizor, or some variation thereof...

I own both devices and could make a case for either being superior, but since you don't care enough to support your argument I wont waste my time...

You are all in denial if you think the Droid X won't be the hottest Android phone out in the market once its released. I think the Incredible will just be a blip on the radar and the X will be the must have phone.

The Incredible will appeal to women who want a small chic iphone like device. Nothing gets me angrier or more dismayed when showing off the Incredible and iphoners respond by saying 'oh it's like my iphone'.

I personally want a more manly device and happy with any shape that distinguishes it from the iphone. I detest anyone making the claim my phone looks like an iphone clone.

Blip on the radar? You're a funny guy.... yeah the Droid X and Droid 2 will certainly take their turn as the king of the holl but that does not mean that the Incredible wont still sell well. Moto Droid is still selling strong now that the Incredible is out...

But did you hear about the phone that HTC will release around the time Motorola releases that?

Of course not. Just because HTC doesn't go around flaunting something that may/may not be currently doable, doesn't mean they aren't actively looking into it.

My point, don't compare phones that are released 4 months (or more!) apart. With Android, it doesn't work.

Furthermore, if these high-end devices are running MotoBlur... Well yeah, let's just hope that Motorola can mop that mess up into something useful. I've yet to meet one person who actually needs that much social networking integration. And yes, Sense UI integrates well with social networks. Well enough for me, and I consider myself to be fairly heavy into social networking.

I don't think Motoblur is that bad, It is definitely inferior to Sense but it's not as bad as people tend to say it is. And as for the social network integration, that is the only reason I haven't retired the Devour yet, I like how it integrates MySpace updates with Twitter and FB ones..

I'm a fanboy of no manufacturer. My loyalty is to Android and to Google.

When I find the next hottest device that is the one I will get.

Looks like they are making MotoBlur less in your face on this one. I want to be able to choose Sense/ Motoblur or Android interface and not be forced to use Sense on everything as the Incredible does now. I like the bigger screen. The body will probably will feel more solid and less plasticky/creaky than the Incredible. I'll stick with the Incredible until the iPhone comes out on Verizon later this year and will drop Android altogether for better hardware, OS, and apps plus a much more cohesive user interface and overall experience.

I would not hold out for the new MOTO Droid simply because I don't like sliders.

At the end of the day it's still a Motorola in my mind.....they left a bad taste in my mouth since the Razr. I bought it after several flip phones from their company and loved them up until that dang Razr. I thought never again. Went to two LG flips between that and moving to Blackberry and now with HTC. Been highly impressed with how the phone performs and until something amazing comes along I will not purchase a non-htc or Android phone. Bring it on competition and innovation!!

Motorola has every intention of selling the Mobile devices unit as soon as they can get it stable. They tried to sell it already but nobody wanted it. The "Co-Ceo" who came in from Qualcomm gets a huge bonus as soon as he is able to sell it. That is all very publicly available information. So don't expect them to remain Motorola for long.
Motorola quality control and customer satisfaction took a steep nosedive after they outsourced all production to China and had multiple contractors, sub contractors, and sub sub contractors making parts and assembling product. The same happened with outsourcing of customer support.
For some reason Motorola seems to have thought they had more of an exclusive with Google and Verizon for Android phones but have found that is not the case.
Once the iPhone is on Verizon and other carriers you will see Android sales tank just like they did in Europe where the iPhone is on multiple carriers.

I wouldn't say tank. I wouldn't buy an iPhone if it came to Verizon simply because it's not the "newest" of devices and I have seen what it can do. When you talk Europe it didn't tank Android devices there either, the iPhone was for sell in Europe well before Android hit it's shores.

When and if (I think it's more when) the iPhone comes to multiple carriers in the US sales will increase more because people are upset with AT&T than new users. There will always be people who go, "eww look the grass is greener", and jump but it will not tank sales I don't believe. It seems the lead the iPhone has over everyone else as little as a year ago seems to me diminishing, and depending on who you ask, it never really had. A LOT of the things iPhone "brought" to the market Windows Mobile was doing before the iTunes store was ever thought about. And multi-tasking, folder, wallpapers, customization in general, dual cameras, video chat, more memory, faster processors, not to mention NO USB, FLASH, OR SD CARD SLOTS!!!

I think if everything was available on all carriers sales would bounce back and forth for awhile, but considering Android devices outsold iPhone over the previous quarter by a large number, it's because it's available on all carriers. This would go away and be much closer if the iPhone was available. But it killing Android sales, I highly doubt it. New is always nice, but not always better.

I as an Android user apologize directly to you and hope the use of an Android device hasn't been too inconvenient.

Even if the iphone does not make it to Verizon, which has been a pipe dream at best for years, I suggest you run back to whatever carrier operates your iphone as soon as you can.

It's just painfully obvious that Apple's hardware in the iphone4 will not be exceeded and surpassed by the plethora of manufacturers releasing Android devices in the next coming months. In fact Apple should have a safe lead in hardware all the way up to the release of the next iphone.

Also Android's acquisition of a former head of design for Palm exec will not help Android combat their UI/UX deficiencies.

It's evident that Android will not get better and that Apple's once a year device will be far superior. So please do me a favor and just go run back to your idevice as quick as you can. I don't want Android to inconvenience you anymore.

Another term I've heard today is that the iPhone is considered the "dumb phone" of smart phones because your mom can use it. lol for what it's worth.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but I honestly couldn't care less (beyond simple curiosity) what other phones come out for the next year/year-and-a-half or so. I put alot of time into researching phones, and have been extremely pleased with my Incredible so far - it does everything I need to do, and does it very well in my opinion. I also know that sooner or later some other phone is going to come out that is going to be faster/more powerful/better than my Incredible, but that doesn't change the fact that the Incredible does everything I need it to do.

There is room for more than one great phone in the Android universe, after all...

The iPhone will never come to Verizon, and I doubt it will go to any other US carrier besides ATT. Here's why:

Apple's business model is to control all aspects of the phone, from media to apps to content partners, etc.

Verizon and Sprint have too many 'content provider' contracts that are very lucrative. They will not easily drop these partners to appease Apple (a single provider, and one who refuses to work in a competitive environment).

The reason that Apple is on ATT is because Apple can bully and control ATT. ATT has the worst network and (other than the iPhone) the worst handsets. ATT benefits greatly from their deal with Apple. No other carrier would benefit from an arrangement like the one Apple requires in order to do business. Therefore, no other carrier will ever get the iPhone.

The closed system that Apple enjoys on ATT is the only environment in which it can thrive. Once there are choices for content, Apple's entire business model falls apart. This is why Apple demands that carriers adhere to strict rules about content partners, and this is exactly why Verizon refused Apple's offer years ago.

Nothing has changed. You won't see iPhones on another network until Apple changes their tune.

Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but I honestly couldn't care less (beyond simple curiosity) what other phones come out for the next year/year-and-a-half or so. I put alot of time into researching phones, and have been extremely pleased with my Incredible so far - it does everything I need to do, and does it very well in my opinion. I also know that sooner or later some other phone is going to come out that is going to be faster/more powerful/better than my Incredible, but that doesn't change the fact that the Incredible does everything I need it to do.

There is room for more than one great phone in the Android universe, after all...

Exactly. I'm fine with my decision, until it is time to upgrade again. The DROID X (and the EVO) is just too big for me. The Incredible is the perfect size, IMO. The screen is just big enough to type on easily, and the phone is thin enough to love to carry around in a pocket.

I have had my first incred replaced, it only took 3 days to get another one, Now this one is shot right out of the box, I will have my 3rd incredible on monday. For me getting the phone swapped out by tech assit has been easy, getting a phone that actually has cell service is the problem, the android system on it is sweet, but so far it fails Big time with cell reception, my 3 year old LG flip phone has 3 bars at my house, my Incredible has 0 bars to no service, Tech support told me I have had 2 bad phones, I really dont believe him, but he can keep sending me new phones if he likes

No, we're just in the minority on the forums. The average person could care less about rumored devices. I'm content with my Droid but I don't mind reading up on new software and hardware.

I haven't held it, so I don't know if it's too large to be comfortable, but I can say without a doubt that I am happy with the Incredible. In fact I?m much happier with my Incredible since I ditched the case and removed my Zagg shield. The profile is much thinner and the glass seems to work much better for Swype input than the Zagg which sometimes seemed to offer too much resistance to sliding a finger on the screen. Given that I didn?t like the width and thickness of the Incredible in a snap on case, I?m not sure how I?d like to carry around an even larger phone.

On a technology level, other devices will come out between now and when I upgrade that will probably be better, the new Droids will are likely in that category, but that doesn?t change the fact that my phone currently does all I need it to do very well and I don?t plan to upgrade again until that is no longer the case.

I?m glad the Droid X and Droid 2 are coming out; more competition will only make the pace of innovation quicker which will lead to a better device lineup the next time I?m ready to buy a new phone.
