Htc Inspire sideload update!!!!

I finally got the chat feature to work by using IE instead of firefox, opera, or chrome.
They said the update would send an alert and that the phone would have to install the new firmware but none of that happened. I got tired of waiting for the alert and checked "settings, applications" and it was there. Total of about 10 min. from start to finish.
Glad to finally get it on the phone as my other inspire got it a couple of weeks ago.

Too Easy!

I waited patiently and got no update. So tonight I decided to give the "Chat Session" method discussed here a try. I got the update in LESS THAN 5 MINUTES!

Here's the dialog:


Welcome to AT&T Chat. My name is 'Anthony Hess' and I?ll be happy to assist you today.

Anthony Hess: I will be happy to send the update to you.

Anthony Hess: May I have the last four digits of the social security number?

Greg: 7--7

Anthony Hess: Thank you Greg.

Greg: Will this update occur while we are in the Chat Session?

Anthony Hess: The update should only take a few minutes Greg.

Greg: Thanks!

Anthony Hess: I have sent the update, please let me know when the update arrives.

Greg: Will do, but how will I know?

Anthony Hess: You will get an alert on the phone.

Greg: OK

Anthony Hess: Anything yet?

Greg Beardmore: No, not yet...

Greg: OH! While I did not get an alert, I just checked Settings/Applications and the Unknown Sources check box is there. Thank You So Much!!

Anthony Hess: Is there anything else I can do for you?

Greg: No, you've been very helpful, Have a great evening! Bye.


As I said, the whole thing from Log-In to Update-Received took less than 5 minutes. Whoot Whoot!!
 
OK, just tried the Chat option again, it was working. Got with someone (Sasha), and it worked!!!
 
Went on chat again last night. The rep knew exactly what I was talking about. He tried to send it, but he said they couldn't locate my IMEI. I game him the number and he said he would send the information to Data and I should have the update by Friday. If not, he said to call back.

I went to the chat: (AT&T)
Then clicked wireless tech support, logged in, and asked: "for the push update that allows me to install unauthorized apps". The rep exactly knew what was going on and send me the update within minutes.

:)
 
Sigh, i got asked to enter my last 4 digits of SSN 5 times, and they said it was something diff on the acc...

edit: changed support and same problem but it was a diff acc they were trying to log into.

got the update in 5 minutes with the new person./

Well, I just got off of chat with technical support and was told that the push is now on hold indefinitely due to a security problem. Anybody else hearing this? I had called Tuesday and was told that it was pushed to me but it never showed up so I contacted chat again. Here is the main part of the chat session:

Wallena Dunlap: I do apologize about the inconvenience with not receiving your push, but I will be more than happy to assist.
Kellye: Great
Wallena Dunlap: I apologize.
Kellye: I'm not sure why the push didn't go through. I have restarted the phone repeatedly and then checked for it.
Wallena Dunlap: I apologize, but I will be more than happy to assist in providing some additional information.
Wallena Dunlap: May I please have the last four digits of your Social Security number to access your account?
Kellye: xxxx
Wallena Dunlap: Thank you for verifying.
Kellye: You're welcome.
Wallena Dunlap: I would like to advise you that this push for third party applications is not available.
Kellye: Why is that?
Kellye: It has been pushed out to customers since May 16.
Wallena Dunlap: AT&T is not pushing the update because of some security issues that we would like to avoid. Until the security is updated then AT&T will be able to perform the Over the Air updates in our systems,.
Wallena Dunlap: I apologize about the inconvenience.
Wallena Dunlap: At this time, we do not have an estimated time of the release on the update, but AT&T will notify customers once the update is available.
Wallena Dunlap: Is there anything else that I can assist with?
Once again, if anyone else is told differently or given an ETA I would like to know. I didn't point out how little faith I have that we will be notified when the pushes start again seeing as how there has been no communication so far.

Hi, i just got off the chat support and received the update in 5 minutes. try a different support tech and that should fix it.

My first one was dumb and couldnt get my info verified. 2nd one was trying to log in to the wrong account same name but itworked out, and got it in 5 minutes.
 
They have no idea about the ETA, it just depends on how long your phone takes to process the data after it's pushed. It can take up to a few hours once the update is actually pushed to your phone, with XDM going BOOM repeatedly, ATT cannot give a good schedule on when the update will get pushed.
 
I can verify that when I used the chat method, they told me it might take up to 48 hours to get the update due to the high demand for the manual push. Hopefully, it will actually push and I won't have to contact them again.
 
Oh god I wish there was just a link or somewhere we could go to and BAM!
I am tired of downloading amazon apps and not being able to install them when they are down downloading...
 
I waited 48 hours and got nothing which is what prompted my call today. I'm going to try it again since others have gotten it today. I just wish they would have posted or released some sort of schedule as it have saved them (and us) time and effort.


ETA: I just got it! The tech had it pushed to my phone, had me turn off the phone and back on and BOOM there it was. Amazing how different this chat was from the one earlier. Now I get to figure out how to use it.
