Htc Inspire sideload update!!!!

The SIM card makes no difference in how the phone registers on the network. The IMEI not being loaded will. However if you have Internet access, and voice, and your My Account shows the correct phone, you are registering fine on the network.

I've been fighting this fight since the update released. The current answer from AT&T was to shipe a replacement device. It's sitting at home waiting for me to get back from work to find out if that takes the update.

First of all thanks Alan for starting this thread and thanks to the admins of this site for starting this site..After reading this thread this afternoon I got on the ATT premiere web site (I'm the company phone guy where I work) and asked for the unknown sources fix. The guy that helped me didn't know anything about the fix and gave me the number for ATT small business key contacts support. This lady knew what I wanted but had no idea how to do it she sent me to corporate data support. and was put on and off hold and was handed of to the PMC dept. they looked and finally said she didn't know what i wanted and couldn't help me. At that point I
looked at menu - settings - apps and lo and behold the unknown sources option had magically appeared on the menu. I can only speculate that some person involved in this process figured it out and pushed the update out to my phone I saw no evidence during this time anything was going on with my phone FYI, I got my phone on Monday and have been trying to figure out how to get my non market app on my phone for 3 days the app is team viewer and it works great. By the way total time for this whole procedure 2 hours
thanks again

Is anybody still having problems receiving this still? Well other than me?

After getting no where, as I had posted last week, I went ahead and did the XDA forum's expliot - thus sacrificing my MMS (and noticed my GPS started acting up). The other day I decided that even though I don't use MMS that often, I'd rather not exchange one 'should be working' item for another and did a Factory Reset.

So after finishing the reset I returned to AT&T Support Chat. The rep I chatted with knew exactly what I was talking about and said that they would push the update right away and told me it could take 24 hours.

The next day I still did not have the "Unknown Sources" Option., so i returned to the chat once again. The tech I had this time also knew what I was taking about, and said the last one showed that it didn't go through due to a 'glitch' (didn't elaborate on what the glitch could be) and she would resend it right away., Watching the phone this time, I noticed that my H+ icon went from check mark to activity arrows, so I assumed it came in. No notifications or anything though. This tech said if I don't have it in 2-3 hours to come back and check on it again.

5 hours later I still didn't have it so once again back to the chat. This tech again was knowledgeable on the subject. They stated that the update was sent but could take 24-48 hours, but would resend it if I'd like. When they resent it I again noticed my H+ change from check to activity....but not notication again.

Now I'm still here with no update, although it seems that i may be receiving something. Anybody have any idea what the problem may be? I;m still relatively new to the whole Android system.

I tried with the replacement phone to no success.

However, I was in the Core Store I frequent today to pick up screen protectors, and look at the Atrix for my upcoming contract renewal on another line.

While I was there, I talked to the guy how is an Android fanatic about it, and he was able to get ahold of an internal dept and get it done.

We walked out of the store 20 minutes later with the update loaded and working.

YMMV.

I went to the ATT store and they could not fix it. The guy told me it is the phone and to take it in to get a new one...but eh...I would like to find a solution. Is the only solution restoring the phone to factory condition?

Even after this my phone didn't seem to work properly. So I got a brand new phone since mine was less than 30 days old.

I'm still having the same problem. I think they're blowing me off. I think 24-48 hours is just a pacifier. I am thinking of updating my sim card though. And for those of you who had IMEI problems after the sim change, that number auto updates every 24 hours so you might have no luck if you run down to ATT then run home to get the update.

Good luck to everybody still working on it!

Made a call to ATT support last night and asked rep about 3rd party app update and.of course he had no clue, but he transferred me over to technical support and the young lady knew exactly what I was talking about! She pushed the update out while I was on the phone with her and in just a couple of minutes "Trust 3rd party applications" showed up in my settings! Did a quick reboot and was immediately able to install Amazon app store.
Thanks to all for the great advise and instruction on this forum. As someone new to Android I have a lot to learn and this forum is great.

I just got off the phone with AT&T and now have the option on my phone. After talking to some girl that didn't know how to push the update, i had her transfer me to someone above her, the guy knew what I wanted and had the update pushed to my phone and i had it within 3 minutes of him getting on the line.

My advice is to just be patient and if you don't get someone that knows what they are talking about, ask for someone higher up. Its possible to get the update you just gotta get to someone who can do it.

OK, so three weeks of trouble shooting and the only benefit has been a full credit of the first months service. It was 300.00 + they said, which was another error, but I ended up with a 12.00 credit as a balance for the prorated first month + full second month.

So after going to PDC department or whatever its called, the rep said that "THE UPDATE DEFINATELY DOES NOT TAKE 24 HOURS AND SHOULD BE ALMOST IMMEDIATE. UNFORTUNATELY HE ALSO SAID MY SPECIFIC PHONE IS REJECTING THE UPDATE. He recommended swaping out the phone for a new one, and I told him we just did that two days ago! So the exact same problem is happening on both phones (inspires). How f ing dumb! The problem is on their system side, and the over the air update they are sending. I am going to flip out. He basically said, "o well thats all we can do here!" I was like , "so what does that mean, i just deal with less functionality then everyone else gets?" He just kept saying he has done everything he can. He then piped up and said that he could email the guy who put the xdm cross (the system that sends the updates) online. (he should be fired)

I basically am at the point where I am going to root the god damn thing, and call it a day. Question? Will I loose everything (all data ) when I root it?

So I will let you all know how it goes. The htc rep btw said the inspire should be a lock for the 2.3 update and should have that correction built in when it comes out.

Call me if you have questions, ot want to discuss this, rootin, or other options! 512 200 drew

Thanks for all the info guys! We should all get jobs at att, since we know more than the techs!

ATT just noticed how many attempts I've had. A rep just called me today. I'm having the same problem as drew here. So I'm waiting for them to get back to me. They even sent a text with my case number to me.

I called ATT this morning to get my sideloading update and ran into the problem that most of you are having, the download kept failing. If this is happening to your update, make sure you DISABLE WiFi while they are trying to update your phone. As soon as I disabled WiFI the update came down immediately.

good luck to you all.

OK so i did the update when it was available, and Friday night i had to wipe my phone, now it wont let me do the update again. Any ideas how to get around it saying, No Updates Available.

I don't know that it would make a difference, but would buying the phone from other than an AT&T store make a difference? I got mine at Best Buy since I work there. No luck with getting the update pushed, though. They've tried multiple times and I can't even begin to say how many times I've been told to wait 24 hours.

ive received just about every excuse in the book trying to get this. ranging from "we've sent it, it should be there" to "the servers in DC are down and thats why you arent getting the update. please wait 24-48 hours before contacting customer support". Ive done that 4 times now over the course of 3 weeks and still no update. maybe mentioning the thoughts of using another service provider when contract is up in 3 months will get some more motivated assistance?

Just called in and had it done in about 15 minutes total. General customer care put me through to tech support. Guy knew exactly what I wanted. Asked for my firmware version and then pushed it out. Said it could take up to 24hr but set up a callback to make sure it goes through. As soon as I got off the phone I saw my data arrows light up, checked it and there it was. Very easy, thanks OP for posting this!

After a frustrating 1 hr call last week where the guy didn't have a clue what I was talkign about, I decided to take the chat route today. I put tha I was looking for the patch that allows applications from unknown sources and that I understood that their XDM tool could be used to push that to Inspire 4G customers.

It took a few minutes to connect to a chat rep, but the first person I connected with was a guy named Eddie that was in tech support escalation, and he immediately knew what to do beforeI evenhad to explain myself. He just asked to confirm I was authorized on the account and asked for the Imei and pushed it. He stayed on the chat till the push arrived.

He said it would notify me and ask to install it. It did not. While I was waiting to see a system update come in I checked under applications and the unknown sources checkbox had appeared without any interaction on my behalf. I should note the XDM tool had reported back to him that the patch had downloaded to my phone successfully.

Overall it was a surprisingly smooth interaction compared to what I am used when dealing with cell companies.

I am in queue in for the chat now. This isn't my first time, though. I just brought my phone in and got it replaced because an AT&T rep told me to. We had been exchanging emails and she said she kept pushing the update, but nothing. Hopefully I get lucky this time and get the update. I will NOT swap this phone in for another one.
