HTC M9, need Help with SMS T to V & V to T
Where is my Voice Assistant?
I need my SMS read to me over BT with the option to reply, totally hands free.
I used to be able to do this with my Android devices.

There was an Android setting, "Read SMS over BT only" but I cannot find that now.

The only setting l can find is in the Google app, under Voice, Hands Free and Speech output, both are "enabled" as needed.

I also have 2 apps installed that work with my BT device. One of the apps has the option to read out my SMS, but it does it always, over speaker too if the BT is not in use.
But it does not offer me an option to reply.

My Windows Phone is the only device this feature still works on?

It seems this feature is now only available with a Paid app.
Way to go Google.

I posted the M9 for sale or trade on CL. But I priced it high.
Looking for a Nexus, last chance.
Or an iphone, just to give IOS a fair try.

It is a feature unique to Windows Phone. I don't remember there is ever such thing on Android out of box or on iOS. Sounds like you will be switching phones all over the place if you don't realize that there are differences between platforms and learn to adapt. No platform is perfect.

It used to work with my Android devices, OK GOOGLE, like Cortana, seems to have taken over V to T, and features were lost in Android.
I assume it was a "technology/ intellectual property licensing" issue?
Reading through the forums and Q&A, revealed multiple users looking for this lost function.
Unfortunately, I do not have an old Android anymore to test.

I learned in these forums NEVER to question somebody's level of experience.
I have been using Windows Mobile since 5.0 and Android since 1.6.
My current WP is the MS 950XL.
I recently "settled" on the M9 as my secondary device after trying a Note 3 and 4 and Gear S watch, a BB Passport SE, an LG G2 and LG V10. All since June 2015 when I started getting inconsistent results with V to T on Android.
Mostly I just like to try other devices.

When I got the 1520 and Nexus 5 at the same time in late 2013, the N5 collected dust. I enjoyed WP more, and lost track of the changes happening on Android. When I traded the 1520 for the Note 3 I immediately regreted it, as that is when I started having this problem.

I only want a Nexus phone now to stay in touch with Android, but as the days go on, I have less reason to keep hanging onto an Android phone. My Android Tablet does the work of picking up the slack assuming my WP does not break.

The info that this does not work on IOS either does help. Now I don't need to sign up for an Apple account. Thank You.

I have been using Windows Mobile since 2.0 and Android since 2.0. Using both platforms in parallel since. iOS is mainly for my wife. There are many features implemented in WP I wish should have been in Android for a long time. Unfortunately, Android has been the old Windows Mobile, capable of all kinds of tweaks and capabilities but master of none. I don't remember Google ever implemented something like that. Must be the feature implemented by one of the OEMs that comes with the phone.

I thought it was part of the Talkback function. I had to install a bunch of Google add ons, some are still showing in my history. I installed what I thought I needed, but as already concluded, it doesn't work anymore.

But like I said, I used WP more for my primary device. Been struggling to justify more than one OS/ Device (TOY)

I think in the end, I enjoy these devices too much to settle on one. Even if I only need one.
Really, as long as I can keep making parallel trades I will keep trying whatever I can get a hold of.

The 950 XL will remain my "primary" device. +1 for Windows Phone.

Thanks for your response. I wish I had found Windows Mobile earlier than 5.0, but it was Symbian that introduced me to the "Smartphone".
