HTC M9 screen size

Screen size is fine as is.

As for people complaining about the M8 being tall, I've never understood why that's a problem.

You don't have to understand why. It's different strokes for different folks. Everyone has a personal preference on device ergonomics and aesthetics....

Was looking forward to M9, but 5 inch screen has me re-thinking this.. Probably see what the G4 will bring.. Unless I finally cave on my urge for the note 4..

I sent back the M8 because screen was too small/tall (and camera was poor). The phone display has very narrow proportions, like the iphone 5, and it has an effective width of any other 4" screen. So even though it's a 5" screen, horizontally, it behaves and displays webpages as if you're on a 4" screen.

I won't go for this if the screen is only 5". To me, an additional 1/2" makes the phone MUCH more usable for reading/webpages, etc. I do not use a laptop and rely on my phone 24/7 for just about everything. The LG G3 is 5.5", fits my cases and pockets beautifully and functions great.

I'd love to make the move back to HTC for the speakers, clean interface "sense", and being able to buy the phone SIM-unlocked; i.e., no :"messing around" by AT&T or Verizon. Looks like I'll have to wait for the Max in the fall.

It is surprising that they do not appear to be following the trend to 2560 screen resolution.
To me, also, the M8 was very light. I felt it would almost fly away or drop out of my hand with a little breeze. I like something a bit beefier and less-delicate. I'd love it if they doubled the battery size!!!

All valid points. Is HTC going to release an updated Max? That's something I would be interested in.

Don't know what you're talking about. It's a 16:9 screen, just as the Galaxy S5, Xperia Z3, LG G3 etc phones are. If you claim the One M8 screen is too narrow, then you're also saying every phone with a 16:9 aspect ratio (which is all of them) are too narrow as well.

I actually hope they don't go to a 2560x1440 screen. Having used the G3 and Note 4, I don't believe the resolution is a significant leap over 1080p. Don't really feel it improved the picture quality. That's to me anyway. And added benefits of sticking with 1080p is that it'll be less stress on the processor and potentially better on battery life. Happier with a 1080p screen than a 1440p. At 5", I doubt people would notice the difference.

Seems like from the leaks the Hima is looking to be a pretty sensible phone in all respects. It's a shame they weren't able to make an 8 ultrapixel camera (as I think that could have really been the sweet spot for resolution and low-light performance). If the phone will have the same 5" screen but in a smaller footprint, then that's good. 3mm isn't a big difference in height, so I think the black HTC bar will make an appearance again in the Hima.

I am happy with 5 inch. And that is the main reason i would choose HTC M9 over other smarthphones if i wanted my screen to be bigger then 5 inch then i would go for a phablet device

Keep the same specs (5-inch, 1080p) but continue to improve the quality of the screen. Do this while making the device a bit shorter and moving the power button to the side.

Phonearena shows 5.5" currently. Obviously a rumor but more than one source is showing this, I cannot link as I don't have the power yet! :0

I think the M9 will be in the 5" area, while the Plus version will be the 5.5".

I have to say I really liked the M7 size and found the M8 to be a bit tall. But after seeing the ho-hum design of the S6, I am leaning towards the M9, especially if the improve the camera, keep the two front speakers, and SD card. I read somewhere the front camera could be a 13mp, but also read it was going to be 4mp.

I guess we will know soon enough!

Your wish list will not be found in any traditional phone sized device. You are looking for a phablet.

HTC one mini 4.5"
HTC one max/plus 5.5"

I would go with the 4.5inch if it had the same specs as the 5".
