HTC One: Can someone show me how to root or whatever?

Re: Can someone show me how to root or whatever?

Do i need to do a backup of the sense rom first or when does doing backup come into play? just in case i want to switch back to a stock sense htc one

Make a backup right now. Always make a backup before flashing anything. After you make a backup, wipe the phone. In twrp it should be "swipe to factory reset." Then you can flash the ROM. Of course you should already have the ROM.zip on your phone by then. Do you have anymore questions?

An RUU is basically an official update turned into an .exe and it comes with the stock recovery, etc. It is used to update your phone manually.

You can try maybe Gummy ROM, Cyanogenmod 11, and possibly Carbon ROM.

As for photosphere, that has nothing to do with the rom. Stock roms do not come with google apps, so you need to flash the GApps that comes with photosphere separately.

If you want Google services, yes. It includes things like Google Play music, the Play Store, YouTube, GMail, Google+, Google Now, etc.

1. Drag both the ROM and the gapps zips into your phone.

2. Make a backup and then wipe.

3. Flash the ROM first, then the gapps.

4. Reboot.

5. Setup your gmail account.

6. Enjoy your HTC One with CM. :)

You don't have to. Nightly's are experimental. Once you find a stable one that you like, you are free to stick with it.

when backing up do i only select ''boot, data and system''? then swipe to backup?

Re: Can someone show me how to root or whatever?

Select everything! yes swipe to backup.

Cool did my first rom! i tried slimkat but camera lowlight quality was way lower than stock sense. So im thinking of trying cm11 now an see how happens. Is it all the same process minus having to backup?

Been keeping an eye on this thread. Glad you got rooted, and have flashed your first ROM. Congrats. I love SlimKat. Slim is very good about releasing above average ROMs, even though they are a little slow in releasing them.

Thanks its been a heck of a time learning all the steps an whats all needed etc etc. But thanks to wizzrah for having LOTS of patience and walking me through every step,i couldnt be more thankful! Thanks wizzrah! Hats of to UJ95x as well! For answering questions and helping me whenever wizzrah was away from the topic.

Yeah i like how simple SlimKat is an sleek. Only issue now is the camera quality from what i tested so far.

Anything that isn't using Sense, is going to have to use the stock Android camera. Unfortunately that app isn't as good as the Sense camera :(
Same happened with my S4 and the TouchWiz camera, but I had to give that up in favor of a better ROM

With every custom ROM, there are going to be bugs. CM may be roughly the same with the camera. It is kind of a give and take. You sacrifice something for something else. In Slim's case, it is camera quality versus speed of updates. And compared to nightlies, only having a lower quality camera is not bad. I have seen some nightlies (can't remember which ROM) that have almost more bugs than working features.

Hmm makes sense then ,majority of the cameras in custom roms would probably be just about the same but not as good as the sense version.

Yeah your right i agree as well just like that UJ95x said. Well i wouldnt mind giving cm11 a go just to see how it run an what not. I guess i could sacrifice night images for a good rom.

Do you both know how i get back into the twrp? i rebooted an held down the volume but it keeps going into Slimkat

Not familiar enough with HTC devices, hence why I stayed silent for most of the thread.
