HTC One Getting Really Warm

Hi guys,

Anyone else who got their phone yet notice that it gets really warm sometimes? Sometimes when playing games (dinosaur games to be precise, I just watched Jurassic Park 3D) it gets warm, same when streaming Pandora. I know that you can expect it to heat up a little, considering they're hardware intensive and in terms of Pandora, data intensive, but has anyone noticed it getting warm to the point of discomfort?

Love everything about this phone, hoping it's not a hardware defect on mine.

Thanks,
Jonathan

I think based on what you said you are doing with your HTC ONE it is not out of the realm for it to get a bit hot considering the processor being used. Monitor it over time to see and does it get hot when you are not using the items you mentioned?

Most of these phones will get hot with extended use or high end use (i.e. videos, games, etc.).

I hate when my S3 gets hot just because it keeps searching for a signal.

Well so far that's all I've really done with it, it's not hot while idle or anything. You're probably right, just that new phone paranoia. My Lumia 900 never got hot, granted the processing power of that was nothing even close to this. I'll see if it gets warm doing other things, guess I can't complain too much about some heat when I'm performing processor/data intensive tasks.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, it gets warm due to the CPU. My Galaxy SII did the same thing. The difference is the One's aluminum body. Aluminum is a very good heat conductor, so when the CPU gets hot, the phone's body acts as a heat sink, pulling the heat away from the CPU. This is good for the CPU. Also due to the heat distribution the body will be equally warm but shouldn't get uncomfortably hot. On other phones, there's often a single small area right behind the CPU that can get super burning hot (like on my SII).

Yeah mine gets warm as well when it's being worked hard. Nothing to worry about, my S3 was the same but as said above it used to develop a hot spot.

Agree - mine heats up too - especially when streaming over Spotify. If it's a design defect then we all have it!

I can see your phone getting hot while watching HD movies or gaming, but just streaming music? Might be something wrong there...

Mine gets a bit warm when I'm using it a lot too, but it's better than my Nexus 4, which could get disturbingly warm at times.

I installed System Panel.. and it goes up to 44 degrees while I play games. I'd say it's more than warm. Is this normal? I'm not sure if it's because of the aluminum design or of my phone is defective. Anyone have any ideas? Sorry to beat this to death.. it's my only complaint.

I'm having the same issue, but it's mostly when playing music (streaming or locally). It does tend to get hot while doing most things involving the radio, as well, but that's just an effect of the design. I'd hate to try and stream audio and use GPS at the same time; it'd probably catch on fire.

Hot is an understatement. Almost too hot to hold. If not for the velcro strips I placed on the back to attach it to my dashboard in the car, it would have been too hold to hold for the hour during my daughters play at school today. Had it since last Friday, one week, first time I've noticed heat. Happend during intensive video capture of my daughter in her play. Doesn't seem normal or appropriate for this caliber phone.

Hm. Starting to think this might because of software that isn't fully compatible with the HTC One yet. The Jurassic Park game (YES I'm still playing it, don't judge me!) Just got updated in the Pla store, and the only changes were "bug fixes." My HTC One isn't running hot anymore when I play it.

If you want to see it get really hot, run the stability test through AnTuTu.

Mine gets preeeety hot when streaming music, but it's not so hot that it's a major source of concern for me. Seems to be a common feature of the phone though.

Beside HTC ONE getting warm, I have found out that there is an Update for the camera of HTC ONE. The update version starts with 129.xxxx But my HTC ONE ( T-mobile version US )
is still on Version 127.xxxxx and whenever i try to click on Software Update it tells me NO UPDATES AVAILABLE.

Have anyone of you noticed this ? or do you know any solution ??

And yes my HTC ONE also gets warm specially when its Charging by normal socket or by my Car Docking & also when i use the Camera.
