HTC One M7 stuck in boot loop after VZW OTA update

Yesterday my HTC One M7 on Verizon was issued a software update to fix security issues. The update said it would take roughly 20 minutes. Well after 2 hours of the phone flashing between the "HTC" splash screen and the "Updating Software from Verizon Wireless" screen, I called VZW.

The whole loops takes about 20 seconds, and the buttons are mostly unresponsive. Holding the power button down simply makes just the "HTC" splash screen loop, and same goes for Volume Down/Power at the same time.

After the phone finally died, we tried plugging it in. As soon at the battery icon appears on the screen, the phone turns itself on and the loop begins again.

Anyone have any input? The VZW rep and HTC rep tried to get us to wipe cache, but we could not enter the HBoot menu, and although the VZW rep is supposed to call me back so we can try a Factory Data Reset, I don't think this will be possible either, since we can't access the menus.

Re: HTC One M7 stuck in boot loop after VZW OTA update

Mine is doing the exact same thing today. I cannot get it to do anything else. Not able to get it into boot recovery. Very frustrating.

Bump, I am having the same issue. I am going to pop the sim card out and let the power run out, but doubt that will help much. :/. If anyone gets an update on this, please post here!

Same here been going on for 2 hours now. Can't get it to do anything. Do I get a M8 cause they bricked my M7?

Update,,,I can get it to shut down by holding power and vol+ and vol- at same time the htc boot up screen is showing. Stil no fixy for the problem though.

***Solved*** sort of....

I tried all kinds of solutions including taking out the sim card and letting the battery run out. Nothing was working. I took my phone into the local Verizon store. They tried to soft reset (holding down the power and sound button simultaneously) and a number of other diagnostic tests, but it would not stop the endless loop. I was told to service rep would call me and tell me how to fix it. But once I got home, I looked at my phone to miraculously see that it had moved on to the "updating apps". It finished updating and my phone is unbricked. So something they did allowed the update to go through all the way, but I don't know how or what exactly caused it. It could of been the soft reset, or maybe they tried something else, the phone was still looping when I left the store, so I didn't bother to ask. But something caused it to reboot successfully.

My theory is the verizon store did some type of reset but I needed to get back to a reliable wifi source for it to finish the update. I would try the soft reset if you can. The soft reset at the time, did not actually seem to do anything. It didn't even restart the phone. But it's the only thing I know for sure they did. Sorry this is not more helpful, but wanted to let you know there is a possible fix without wiping your phone.

I was able to have it update all the way, but not sure how I did it. I was never able to turn it off all the way. But read my post. Good luck dude.

My phone did the same thing. I was dowloading the app to plug it in the PC USB port. I looked over and it was updating apps. Dang.... it fixed itself! I think it was the charge on it. I think I'll plug it in the next time we have an up date.

I had the same problem. After hours of button pushing, etc. I was just going to let the battery drain and try again. However, before I did that, I removed the SIM card and left it out for about 10 minutes. I put it back in to start the battery drain, and next time I checked, the phone was updating! So try removing the SIM card for 10 minutes (or more) with the power off, then reinsert the card and turn your phone on. No guarantees, but my phone is working now and it's the only thing I did different.
