HTC One (M8): Dual Membrane Mic / HDR Mic?

Re: Dual Membrane Mic / HDR Mic?

When anyone gets this answer, please publish. Since the M8 is officially released, I figured I could get the answer from HTC. Nope!
I asked this in an online chat with HTC today:
q: "Initial Question/Comment: What is the specification (detail please) of the microphone in the new HTC One M8? I am aware that the original One had an ST Microlelectronics "Dual Membrane HDR" microhone, but there were some legal issues on that. I thought those issues had been resolved and HTC could once again use the dual-membrane mics. This is my primary reason to make the switch to the long-awaited HTC One M8 - the ability to achieve great full range audio during video recordings, even at high, concert-like volumes. Thanks!"
a1: "Some information about the phone is proprietary, I apologize. More will be released in the coming days."

I was at this concert too. I took this video from down front with Nokia Lumia 1020, which I got specifically for the HAAC Microphones. Unfortunately, I suck at taking videos. Hate the windows phone. Got rid of it. Was going to get the old HTC One because I know for sure those have the HDR mic, but I think I'll get the M8. Thanks for the video. Did you like the concert?

Has anyone figured out how to record only audio, but in STEREO with the M8? All apps. and attempts have failed so far. Video seems to record stereo, but audio-only apps just record mono, with both channels identical.

Thanks.

Are you sure, or do you just THINK it's recording in stereo? Have you compared the exact levels of the two channels and seen that they're different? It's easy to record on both of the stereo channels, but I haven't yet seen it work with different microphones for the different channels.

Easy way to confirm this is to record a short sample, tapping on different parts of the phone. Then, using an audio app that allows you to view the wave-forms of both L&R channels at the same time, note the difference, if any. If they are different, it's working. If they're the same, it's not.

Woah, I'll be damned. They have the same waveforms. Sorry man, I thought this one was actually recording stereo files.
