HTC One M8 Fails to update due to insufficient space, how can I fix this?

HTC One M8 Fails to update due to "insufficient space"

I've received a notification to install the latest Android update but it keeps failing to download due to "insufficient space". I've cleared the phone's cache, transferred every photo to PC and deleted a stack of unnecessary apps. There are now no photos, videos and no music on either the phone or the SD card.

I've also restarted the phone three times.

The storage manager on the phone says I have 6.13GB free space, the update is 1.16GB but the "insufficient space" message persists. How can I fix this?

Welcome to Android Central! The update file itself is 1.16 GB, but it might need a lot more space to unpack and install. Anything else you can uninstall?

To be honest, you might want to hold off. There have been a number of posts recently about problems after the update. Which carrier do you have?

Thanks for the response - I'm on EE (UK) - useful to know about the post update issues, guess I will hold off (not that it seems I have much of a choice!)
