HTC One (M8) GPe: Can you explain the benefits of stock Android?

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the fact that GPE doesn't have Blinkfeed, I don't think there is native support for the IR blaster, tap to turn on also GPE doesn't have support for the dot view case. Does GPE do Zoes?

These are the missing features that you will be passing up by going GPE.

Personally, the tap to wake is a big one for me. Tall display with the power button on top of the device it would be nice to have an alternative to reaching to the top of the device to wake the screen. Also the IR blaster and their TV app is something I've been wanting to try out.

I'm on the fence but leaning towards the T-mobile version.

Hi Ironzey,

If you'd read through the other threads you'd find that it does in fact support IR Blaster, it does support double-tap-to-turn on and the dot view case (with some features missing). It also supports the duo-camera when you edit pictures taken with the stock camera. But you're right, it does not have Zoe or Blinkfeed.

The HTC One M8 has a Google Play edition, but how is it different? (hands-on)

I stand corrected patrikr. It does support the dot view case just not all the gestures which I can live with. I didn't go through any of the other threads in the forum (a lot of reading, most of which will be irrelevant) so I might be wrong. Android does support IR Blasters but the quality and user experience of third apps I suspect would be sub par compared to what comes with Sense.
Example one looks good:https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...e/apps/details?id=com.freeirtv&token=HgL5ulTo
Example two looks outdated:https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...details?id=com.mhill.irblaster&token=mxaxDRib
Sense TV : https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...details?id=com.htc.videohub.ui&token=L1m43VIn

After reading the above article and seeing the apps available on the playstore I'm now leaning towards the GPe. The only thing I need to figure out is what the differences in frequencies might be.

You can get HTC TV from the play store for the ir sensor!! Its the same as sense. And I'm hoping HTC will update the dot view case for view for more gestures as this is a simple app update they need to do in the play store!

Sorry if my response was a little aggressive, had a stressful morning yesterday :)

I installed the HTC Sense TV app last night and set it up to control my TV, DVR and receiver. Very easy to do and works great.

I personally really like the GPe edition but I came from a Nexus 5 so it's what I was used to. For me DashClock Widget is almost a must-have and from what I've heard you can't use custom lock-screen widgets on the first lock-screen page with Sense so that's almost a show-stopper for me personally. In terms of frequencies the GPe has the best support of all phones in that it supports all AT&T and T-Mobile frequencies. The Unlocked and Developer versions from HTC is missing AWS which is good to have if you're on T-Mobile.
