Not a bad idea. Albeit, I hope with the likes of the Commuter on the device, it doesn't affect the screen protector, well, the edges in particular. I also think there were some screen protectors in the Otterbox packaging.

I would highly recommend a glass screen protector. I bought the Zagg one at Best Buy. It's expensive ($40) but has a lifetime warranty and we'll worth every penny imo

I know you mentioned that you are not wowed by the phone at this point. I can tell you from personal experience that I am always underwhelmed when getting a new phone because there is only so much you can do when just getting it set up.

However, I end up falling in love with phones in those moments where you need to quickly Google something or get an automatic flight update from Google Now or when you realize that you just texted 10 people 1000 times throughout the day or when you send a hundred emails from the awesome Gmail app or from your Activesync account in the native email app or entering a dozen meetings into your Google Calendar. You don't realize how much you love this phone until a few weeks into owning it and it handles so much of your daily life.

Your app selection is going to be a lot larger than the BlackBerry world. You will find just about everything you need.

Also, go download the following apps:

Google Drive

Google Calendar (put the widget on one of your screens)

Quickoffice (made by Google and connects directly to your Google Drive); I know BlackBerry owners are all about getting work done and you will be amazed by how much more you can get done through Quickoffice and Google Drive than you could fathom on a BlackBerry).

Netflix

The Verge

Android Central App

Crackberry App

IMDB

Slacker

Pandora

CNN

CNET

Also, activate the Google Now widget and get that onto your main screen (resize it to leave one row of app icons above your bottom row that is always there). You will be amazed by how awesome it is as it learns what you like. Also, if you sync your chrome browser on your PC with Gmail, then things you search on your computer will also be on your phone and certain things will pop up in your Google Now widget.

Bear in mind, I'm a gadget guy, and thus I've tried and used many devices. Albeit, I'm a die-hard BlackBerry user, I'm still very versed with Android, iOS and the plethora of apps available on both OS'.

But, I'm not much of an app person. I typically mainly use Evernote, Email, SMS, TapaTalk and the browser. Once I have those apps, I'm fine. It because of this from time to time I've often asked myself if I even need a smartphone...

It is barely 12 hours in and I have to say I need another case for the M8. I like Otterbox, but this Commuter is simply too slippery. It is MORE slippery than the HTC One M8 itself. I've already almost dropped it a few times...

In addition to the device and the Otterbox being slippery, I'm still trying to get used to the sheer size of the device. I'm coming from a BlackBerry Z10, which is much smaller than the M8. So a few things to get used to, the size, weight and the slipperiness of the device.

After 24 plus hours using Android again, I'm already used to it. I see that KitKat has certainly added a few welcomed features. Thus far, the battery seems to be rather impressive. Albeit, I really need to make a point of using the device more. I'm not on social media currently and thus I use the device less. I'm sure that not using social media helps the longevity of the battery.

Still using the M8 and I'm getting more and more used to it. The default keyboard is, to me, better than Swift. Albeit, not better than the BlackBerry keyboard. Just saying...

Now, if I can get over height of the device and it being so slippery, we might be on to something here...

I have the dot view case, a simple clear tpu and the casemate naked tough. I keep going back to the dot view lol.

I have mentioned this before, but, this is a BIG device. Well, in fact, it is a TALL device. The OS is nice, the battery life is unbelievable! I've not charged it in two and a half days days; yes, you're reading correctly. It is currently on 23%.

But, all that to say, I'm close to returning it.

Why?

My main three points still stand out:
1. The wow\must have factor isn't there; albeit, the OS is rather fluid
2. I feel the device is too TALL for me. It is a s t r e a c h for one hand use to access the top of the device
3. Seriously, who wants a case on a smartphone? But, the device is so slippery, I've almost dropped it quite a few times.

Anyway, things to ponder. I think I'm beginning to understand now why Apple have refused for YEARS to increase the size of their devices. I'm sure they have techs testing the size of devices using one hand, and testing OTHER manufacturer devices, too.

Yes, they are apparently. The real question will be if they make it a size that can still be handled by the everyday person with one hand.

So far, the more I used the device the more it feels heavy. Even my missus Samsung Galaxy 4 is lighter than the HTC One M8.

Well, ladies & gentlemen, that's that. I returned the M8. Simply to tall and too slippery for me. I even considered the Samsung Galaxy S5, but it is similar, if not bigger in size.

But, two things; I haven't been able to figure out (I was playing with a friends device), I want to be able to move my screens (I normally only have three) in the order I like. And, I'd love if there was an option to wake the device without pressing the power button each time. Another reason why I chose the HTC, due to gestures...

Long press on the screen, then drag the screen to wherever you want it to be. It's fairly intuitive once you see what happens.

The gesture thing is nice but I don't know whether it's available for the N5. There must be some app that can be downloaded to do it.
